Hi...I am a new member but I have been visiting this site off and on for a year. Trying to decide if this is an option for me. Does anyone know of a site where statistics are posted? Like complication rate, success rate after so many years, things like that? And are most of you happy with the surgery? Any regrets? Thanks, Peggy

Welcome Peggy! I'm not sure if the statistics you're seeking would be here on ObesityHelp, or perhaps on another site. You could do a google search to see what comes up. I know most surgeons could give you that information and the complication rates they have encountered in their practice. YES, I'm very happy with my surgery. NO regrets at all, except that I didn't have it done sooner. Traci 250/159/149 only 10 lbs from goal!

Peggy, If you are interested in Duodenal Switch surgery, there is a website (www)duodenalswitch.com that has information and studies with statistices there. Good luck! Terri

Hi Peggy - Those kind of stats are best to get directly from any surgeon you are considering since you want up-to-date information. Most statistical compilations are outdated a few hours after they are posted on the Internet. I wouldn't be confident in any numbers I found from who-knows-who and who-knows-when -- once posted, stuff lives on the Internet forever!!!! As a fellow Missourian, who did exhaustive research prior to making a decision, I would encourage you to research Drs. Stephen Scott and Roger de la Torre. This is not to say that there aren't other competent surgeons available in the Midwest (and you should by all means research multiple surgeons), but in this team you will find: -they have performed THOUSANDS of weight loss surgeries -they are internationally known as trainers of other surgeons in WLS techniques -they hold dozens of patents on the laproscopic instruments used for weight loss surgery -they report mortality and complication rates FAR BELOW the national averages. -they now perform surgeries in both Columbia (through University Hospital) and the St. Louis area -- I don't know exactly where Raymore is, but their services are worth a drive. This surgery is the best thing I have done for myself in years. I am only 4 months post-op and have already lost 81 pounds, am off ALL medications (high blood pressure & asthma), no longer have blood glucose lurking in the borderline diabetic range, no longer have sleep apnea, and I FEEL GREAT!!! My only regret is that I didn't do it 10 years ago, but then again, the surgical techniques were quite different then and I'm not sure I would have made the same choice. Best of luck in your decision process!! Cindy (-81) 274/193/140
