Dr. Stephen Scott...good recommendations?
I do not know about everyone, but when I went to class before surgery, I was the only one on the 4 weeks of liquid protein drinks and liquid meals before surgery. I had a BMI over 50 when I started. I have no idea how high of weight or BMI he goes to, but I think it has as much to do with the size of your abdomen and the tools they use for the laproscopic surgery. Anyway, keep researching he will answer all questions. I did lose 30 lbs before surgery so the four weeks worked. I think the liquid diet had to do with liver functioning prior to surgery.
No that was not the HMR program, it was just what he asked me to do prior to surgery because I had a"fatty liver". I was po'ed because I was the only one and others were planning their "last meal". So I went out and bought bar-b-que that night...the only time I broke from the 4 weeks of liquid!! I do not know your age, but I was 58 when I had surgery and other than a slight bump at 3 weeks, it has been a life saver. Go to the BMI over 50 OH forum and ask some of those folks about surgery at the higher BMI. they might have more information.

Hi! I had surgery on 9/26/08 with Dr. Scott's friend and coworker Dr. Roger De La Torre and so did my son who had his on 12/30/09. My sons girlfriend and my husband had their surgeries on 4/27/11 with Dr. Scott. He is an excellent surgeon and doctor.

Oops I forgot to add that my son was the only one who had to do the liquid diet.
I had to do the liquid for 4 weeks (fatty liver) lost little under 10% of body weight that month ( which turned into 6 weeks for other reasons) MY BMI was near 50 and I was 53 y.o when I had surgery , and he would not do RNY on me only the VSG. Said I could get the RNY later when I lost over 100lbs. Said I was too high risk for the RNY. I have been happpy with the VSG. No problems what so ever. Just wish they had support group meeting later in the evening. I do not get off work till 630-7 pm and when I have gone I had to take vacation days. My God knows I need a support group. Go to all you can before surgery (I was never told I could go to them pre op) and after surgery forever... Maja
