OT - "Super" Plus Size Clothes Desperately Needed in Joplin, MO

Hi guys,

There's been a call out for "super" plus size clothes that are desperately needed by a small handful of individuals who are pretty much wearing the same clothes they had on Sunday.

In general, there's a HUGE amount of clothes that have been donated, but NOT really large-sized clothing pieces.

This one family is obese AND tall - some of the men are in the 7' tall range.  There are 3  men and 1 woman.  They need:

MEN:
Shirts:  5XTall
Pants:  54" X 38"
             44" x 36"
             34" x 38"
Shoes:  size 13 AND 16

WOMEN:
Shirts:  4X
Pants: 28 Long if possible
Shoes size 10

There's a local radio "news talk" station that has been taking calls about all manner of things to pair up those who are missing, offer services/ products from businesses, & announce needed services/ items & this was one of them.  The announcers stressed 3 times that this family was in dire need of clothing.  I'm sure they're not the only one, Missouri, I believe, is in the top 5 US states for rates of obesity.

I got the contact information for the family and am going to gather the donations & either drop them off or one of the family members whom I spoke to just now will pick them up.  The family lived in one of the apt buildings that was completely destroyed.  They literally have nothing left.

If you can help, please either reply here or send me a PM.

Thanks, peeps!
Lisa

We have gotten rid of all our big clothes but you are so sweet to do this. Hopefully some organization will come up with money to help them buy what they need. I am giving to the Salvation Army and encourage all our members to give until it feels good to whatever organization they choose.
Hugs,
Lana

Thank you so much for helping :)  I feel lucky & grateful . . . when I moved here, I tried to get an apt in Joplin, but with a 4/15 start date, didn't have any luck.  I live just a few miles south of the city & just work in Joplin - at the university, which is fine.

A lot of people have responded on the DS & MB forums for the lady & one person for the guys.  I'm hoping to find some more guys.  It's funny, I've always realized that the boards are more heavily women than men, but never really realized how much.  Try scanning through the names sometime - almost all of the active members are women!  Not many of the guys stick around & help "newbies" like us ladies do :)

One guy who might be able to help is Big Al. He actually works for either OH or St. John's bariatric.
I'll try to contact him.

I didn't find him but you might try posting to the Men's Board. I know he runs it and there might be some who would be able to help.

Thank you so much!  She's actually had a very big response already - I put out cross-posts on the MB & the DS board & I believe at least 8 people are sending her clothes.

If you want to help :), I would send the clothes to me & I will see that they get donated specifically to the people who need those larger clothes.  In general, there's been a ton of clothes donated, but there's still need for MO & SMO people.  I work as a counselor at MSSU, next to Ligget & Platt.  I know I've seen at least 1 very large woman who is wheelchair bound, others who are probably in a 3x, & I know there's other shelters in the city.

I will PM you with my contact info if this sounds good.

Thanks,
Lisa
