I am new to this site. I registered on here a few years back when I first started researching bariatric surgery but have not been active or posted. I am scheduled to have a RNY next week on 11/16. I have noticed that although I am a member on the site and am listed as living in Missouri my surgery is not listed o the upcoming surgery list. Can any one advise me if there is something more I have to do? I am very nervous about next week and just thought I would come on here just for some encouragement and advise. I am having my surgery in Columbia with Dr Roger De La Torre.  I have been having a really tough time with the 2 week highprotien shake/sugar free clear liquid diet. I do really good during the day but cheat a litte at night. Any help or insight with this is appreciated! I look forward to getting to know all of you and meeting some new friends on here.

Lady bug....congrats on getting your surgery date. Im sure you will be fine and know that you have a good doctor. I cant tell you much about him except that i know a lot of people that have had him, including my sister.
You live in Springfield? we have a good support meeting every month , the meeting this month is on the 19th but know you wont be able to be there this month.....we meet at the library center on Campbell once a month...we arent associated with any hospital or doctor hope you will be able to be there in Dec....we will see the date later.
when i had surgery my doctor wasnt using the two week liquid diet so cant tell you anything that will help...I did do only protein for the two weeks before my surgery so i would be loaded with protein and heal faster and drank lots of water. but i did that on my own.

If i can be of any help let me know ....will be praying for you and for your Doctors hands

Congratulations on getting your surgery date scheduled.  I'm 2 1/2 years out and it was the best thing I ever did.  I think everyone gets very nervous before the surgery.  The liquid diet was awful but I made it with very little cheating.  I kept thinking of the great benefits of the surgery.  My surgeon didn't include SF Jello or popcicles but I had a few.  Three days before the surgery I was so hungry for something tasty.  I found a miniature Snickers and scarfed it down.  I felt guilty afterwards but it was the best tasting Snickers I ever had!!

No tricks but stick to the diet. Its hard but the outcome is worth it. Day three and eight were my worst but I survived and lived to tell about it. It helps shrink the liver and that makes recovery and surgery easier on you.
We are here to help if we can. Keep your hands busy.

Thank you all so much for your responses. I am looking forward to reaping the benefits of the surgery. The first thing on my list is to get new knees. My orhopedic surgeon is the one that really encouraged me to consider the surgery. I have to lose at least 100 lbs before they will even consider it.
I have 15 grandchildren and look forward to being more active with them and taking them places and being able to walk around and enjoy my time with them.

I am back home recovering after my RNY. I had lost 16lbs on the pre-op diet. Every thing went well and I only spent 2 days in the hospital but i am in so much pain now. How long till the burning from the staple lines lets up? I am walking as much as I can but still get dizzy and have a fear of falling. Before the surgery I walked with a cane and have poor balance from neuropothy and artheritis in my knees. I am prone to falling so the fear isn't related to the surgery but hightened because of it. My kids and grandkids are taking good care of me. I am blessed.
Just wanted to check in with update.

Wanted to say congrats on your surgery.  I had pain until they took the drain tubes out and then it was like it just disappeared.  I could hardly walk from the pain in my back and knees but after losing 132 lbs it is just amazing. I still have some pain but I walk at least a mile everyday and can do so many things I couldn't with the weight on. This surgery is truly a blessing. Good luck on your journey, let us know how you are doing. Dr De la torre was my doctor also. They are wonderful over in Columbia.
