Tuesday 11/2/10 at 7 am I started my new life,  The surgery was to take 45 minutes but took 3.5 hours.  Dr Scott  said he encountered a very large fatty liver and fat in surrounding areas and had to clip thourgh it all.  Dr Scott said "it looks nice in there, I did a good job." ( said with a smile)  Will seen him for post op on Monday to get staples out, I have 8 puncture sites one for the pain pump and one for the JP drain all removed yesterday before DC from the hospital. The other six I guess were for instuments.  The are mainily on my right side.  Seems weird as the stomach in on the left side of the sternum.  Have three staples in each of those 6 sites. Spent two nights in ICU surgical stepdown and two on the surgical floor.  When I got up to walk My O2 sats would drop to the 70's so I need O2  and by the time I left there were in the 90".  Cannot complain about the pain was managable -abdomen mainly hurts when getting in and out of bed or going to standing or sitting.  Had Morphine in the hosp and to Lorcet and dc on lorcet , now taking tylenol adult liquid.  I find it hard to even describe the FULL feeling if their is one, I just seem to belcha lot if I drink more than the 30ml cup every 15 minutes.  Takes FOREVER to get the vitamens and meds down.  Passing plenty of gas and burps.  No poop yet. but only having liquids for two weeks pre op and the NPO day of surgery I guess I am kinda empty in the bowels. .  I got 2 IV bags of 1000cc and the 150 cc hr iv with potassium and vitamens.  I am sooo very tired yesterday and today (Saturday) napping a lot. So here is my story aand I'm sticking to it.  Love Maja

Congrats!!!  Sounds like Dr. Scott did another good job.  Keep us posted on how the sleeve is working.  My husband is thinking about it, but it will have to be self pay, which will probably mean out of country.  He has diabetes and Rheumatoid Arthritis, so we don't quite know which way to go.  I went RNY gastric bypass, but I am really mal-absorbing and of course can't take the meds he needs for arthritis.  What to do what to do.

I was self pay, don't get me started on that problem.  I was not a candidate for the RNY because of my High BMI >74 starting now 70 (lost 23 pounds pre op) My co morbidities kept me in the USA and Dr Scott's reputation kept me in St Louis.  I thought I might be a "trouble " patient.  I have only had two surgeries prior to this one and both had some complications.  One really really bad complications.  So Dr Scott checked EVERYTHING out pre op.  I  wonder what would have happened to me in MX for surgery, with the much longer Surgery needed and the complications. Just wondering..., Love Maja

Glad everything went well. You will be feeling better in no time. Watching the pounds melt away really is a great feeling. Take it slow and follow the rules.
