Lurker coming out of the closet has a surgery date
Hi
I have been lurking for quite sometime and I just wanted to introduce myself. I live in St. Louis, originally from KC, and I scheduled my RNY today for November 22nd, I am so nervous wondering if this is the right decision, deep down I know it is but it is all so nerve racking now that things are starting to come together. I am going to be going through the new start program using Dr. Follwell as my surgeon, so any feedback you may have regarding him would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Kristie
Kristie, congrats on getting your surgery scheduled. I don't have any info on you Dr., but had my surgery on May 3 2010, and it's normal for you to be so nervous. I was the same, had my doubts and kept reading and posting here, and every thing went much better than I had even hoped, as of Sunday I have lost 121 pounds, and feel better than I did when I was in my 30's. I am now 59 years old and getting ready to return to over the road trucking, the surgery (which I'm sure was a blessing from God) has given my life back. If there are any questions you may have or you just need to get things off your chest, post here somebody will try to answer your questions. Keep positive and follow your Dr.'s instructions, ONE DAY AT A TIME. I hope someone who has knowledge of your Dr. will post and let you know about him. Also, he should have a support group, members should be able to help you out. My advice is get all the support you can, it helps to have post-ops to help you through the nerves.
Hi Kristie ~ I had RNY 7/8/2008 and it's the best thing I ever did. I have absolutely no regrets. My life is so much better. I have lost about 70 lbs. and want to lose at least another 20, and I'm working on that. After the initial weight loss, I took a sabatical and just enjoyed my new life.
Shopping for clothes is so much fun. Wearing belts is something I never did before and dresses and skirts are in my wardrobe now.
I was quite nervous about the surgery as my day approached but never thought of not doing it.
Come here often. This board has the nicest people. :)

Hi Kristie, glad you decided to come out of the closet lol ....i know you are nervous but it really is the best thing you have or will ever do for yourself. Yes there are some things that you wont be able to eat again at least not in the quanities that are consumed now but it is a small trade off . for health, happiness and the ability to do things that have been only a dream .....hope you will stay with us and if you have any questions there are lots of old timers on here that are more than willing to help out and give you what worked for them.....
