Need a female PCP referral in St. Louis...
Hi All~
38F here. I have been combing these forums for months, without the courage to write. This is my 1st step, so please bear with me....
I am in desperate need of a referral for a weight friendly female primary care physician in or near St. Louis. I haven't been to a doctor in 4 years, thanks to constant ridicule and badgering about my "obesity issue" by my last doctor.
I am an intelligent, professional woman... and would never EVER let my children (or anyone ELSE i love) go that long without a trip to the doctor. I realize it is unsafe and unhealthy. I have no explanation. That being said, I already feel horrible about my body. I don't need to feel criticized or judged by a doctor, as well. It wasn't motivating. It made it worse. I couldn't take it anymore. I dreaded going so I stopped.
I know that I can't be the only person in the forum who has felt this way, though I still feel ridiculous typing it, particularly in a public forum.
Regardless, enough is enough. I need to reclaim my health. I HAVE to lose weight. I need a checkup. I need a pap and mammogram. I know that. I need a physician who can be supportive and empathetic, rather than badgering and critical. I need a doctor who understands the complexities of being overweight. One who understands that just because I made the critical life mistake of putting everyone else in my life first... I am still an intelligent adult. Someone who gets it isn't just about the food that I eat.
I need help and options. I need a doctor who can help and guide me through this.
I prefer a woman if possible. Does anyone out there have a female PCP in or near St. Louis who they love and could give a nice recommendation? I live in West County. Thanks in advance for your help, and for not thinking I am a complete and total tool ;)...

My PCP is Dr. Lisa Armbruster. She referred me for surgery and she referred my son also. His surgery was 12/30/09.
Dr. Lisa Armbruster
801 Hazelwest
Hazelwood, Missouri 63042
314-919-2700
She does same day appointments so call first thing in the morning to be fitted in.
Good luck with everything.

Also, be up front about why you are changing doctors. I changed my dermatologist because the prior one just said "You tan?" and then barely looked at me. So when I went to the new one I said, "I tan. I'm not going to stop. If you can't treat me because of that I need to know now so I can choose someont else". He said he realized that I knew it wasn't good for my skin but he would not make me feel bad about my choice and he didn't. Think it's good to get it out there!!!
