I just had my RNY on 6/7/10, what a trip it's been! I'm having a horrible time getting in the recommended 64 oz of fluid, I'm lucky to do half of that! This worries me, not to mention, I feel like I am getting zero nutrition! I just bought Isopure Orange ice protein drink, hopefully that will pep me up a bit, 40 proteins and zero carbs! I can't wait to be done with the all clear liquids phase! I have a JP drain, which is absolutely the worst thing in the world in my opinion, but, I know it serves it's purpose! Thankfully, it comes out Thursday! I was wondering if anyone knows how long the staples need to stay in? It would be nice if they went away with the drain as well! Well, not doing so bad other than I feel to out of it to go on my walks (I just walk as much as I can tolerate), getting in liquids is harder than I thought, this drain sucks, still a little sore, and I miss chewing, lol!!! I never thought I would be excited to eat cottage cheese! Does anyone have any ideas for a 4th of July feast? While my family eats BBQ, I thought that I would make a few things to take that I could also eat.....

Time will start going by faster now and before you know it you will be eating a large variety of food. I had trouble getting all my fluids in and I survived. I do not always get them in now. Drink your protein and your energy will come back. Take your vitamins, chewables for now. I didn't have staples or a drains with my surgery but had a drain with my plastic surgery. They are the pits. Staples and drain should come out about the same time if there are no problems. Just do your best to follow the plan and ask as many questions as you need to.
For the fourth of July maybe some yogurt chilled really well or frozen. Its almost like ice cream. You might be able to eat a few beans. Don't pu**** trust me you will eat again. Don't push yourself walking until you can drink  more. A few weeks won't hurt exercise wise until you are sure you are hydrated.

Congratulations!!  I didn't care for the Isopure drinks at all but we are so different in what we like, you may love them.

I didn't have staples or a drain.  I wasn't on a liquid diet in the beginning.  I could have oatmeal, cream of wheat, refried beans, applesauce, etc.  For the 4th, probably better stick with soft foods, something that goes down easily.  Never try something new when you're out in case it gets stuck and you have to make a mad dash to the bathroom.

Congrats on your surgery! You had the same doc as me! Yep the staples will come out when you get that drain out! That was a weird sensation the drain coming out!

I remember having a hard time getting my liquids in. It takes a couple of weeks before you are able to get there, don't worry!

Hope all goes well with you!
