Start quitting the smoking now. And, you sound to me as if you want to quit for the surgery and then start back up. Bad plan. You may not know that smoking makes healing take longer so if you can quit now you'll heal better afterward. You can do it. Chantix works for many, don't know if Tricare covers it. Keep posting. You will do great. I didn't have DeLaTorre but know many who did.

I had my surgery by Dr.De La Torre. I was a smoker and I had to quit. They will not even give you a date for surgery unless you do. I took Chantix and it really helped. They will do a nicatine test on you the day of surgery and if you have not stopped smoking they will cancel your surgery. Mine was schedualed a month after i quit.you should be good to go to get the surgery. But you have to stop smoking.

Definately quit smoking, may be hard but the risk to your health is too high, and can complicate surgery big time.
I have Triwest and had high blood pressure, high cholesterol, was 305 lbs and 5'7 dont remember my BMI, was approved within 3 days of seeing Dr Hornbostel. I hit my 1 yr surgiversary in March 2010. I think you have a pretty good shot at it. But I am not Tri care either.
Also wanted to invite you to our meeting on the 26th at the library in Waynesville. A lot of the folks there that I know have Tri Care and the dietician that comes is from the post hospital I am sure she can answer more of your questions. She is amazing and oh so nice. Hope you can make it.
Just listen to the Dr carefully you have to do what they say, which is the hardest part of it all, But OHHHH SOOOO WORTH IT!!
I gave up far more before my surgery than I do now, no regrets at all best decision I made in my life... besides marrying my hubby. lol
