Hi, I am fairly new to the boards, but I have been reading and learning for months. I just got my rny date. June 8th. I live in Springfield, Mo and was wondering if there are any support groups around here. Would really like any information on them if anyone has some. Thanks so much. Laura

Hi Laura. Congratulations on your date!!! The time will go much faster than you think from here on in. I am involved in 2 support groups. The MIssouri Shape Shifters (OH Name, you can look it up) they are the same as the St John's sponsored support group that meets on the second MOnday of the month. They meet at the St John's surgery center, 4th floor. Then there is the Circle of Friends. They meet on the friday before or the Friday after the St John's one. Several folks on this board attend so they can give you specifics on date and times. They meet at the Library Center on Campbell.
I hope you will get involved in the support groups. They are both wonderful!

Thanks so much for the info. I will definately check them out.  I was a little disappointed that my date was so far out. But I think the time will fly by. And it will give me time to get everything ready.  Thanks, Laura.

Hi Laura,

Congrats on getting your date, I also belong to the same support groups as Cheryl, the Circle of Friends meets the 2nd Friday of the month, the next one is May 14th, would really love to see you there. I am just starting my liquid diet on Monday, my date is May 3rd.

The group of Ladies on the board are so awesome, they have all been through the journey and can usually answer any questions you might have.

Thanks Jeanie, I hope I will be able to go to the meeting on the 14th. I work Friday nights, but maybe I can get some time off. Good luck on your surgery.

Hi Faith i know June 8th seems like a long time out but it will happen quick. use this time to get your mind wrapped around things and to practice doing some of the things you will need to do the rest of your life....like start taking the vits you will need to take,  eating on a small plate , taking small bites and chewing and chewing  and chewing really well before swallowing, not drinking with your meals. No way will i tell you to try to eat the amount we eat now as without having had surgery you cant...but you can practice those things. will make it some easier after surgery if you have those down pat.

Welcome to the board and i hope you can get off the second Friday of the month some so we can meet you. We love to help the newbies. and are all full of it ....lol  advice i mean.
Are you using Dr. Edwards?  Come back on the board as often as you can , dont lurk lol ....
oh the meetings last from 6:30 to 8 pm usually so if you could just get off that time you could get a lot from them.....love to meet you.

Thanks Jan, It's funny on the way to work tonight I was just thinking about getting in the habit of really chewing my food, my dad had this surgery 8 years ago and he told me that was one of the hardest things for him to remember. I am really going to try to get to the meeting on the 14th I would love to meet all of you. Thanks for the encouragement.

Hi Faith! The name wouldn't stand for faith can move mountains would it? (Faithcmm)  Just thought of that when I seen your user name and then seen your name is Laura.  If not it was a good thought anyway huh?  And really true too.

I have attended the COF support group although I live too far to go regularly... nice people!

Congrats on getting your date! I have a mascot on here  he always helps me celebrate all the good stuff!

I was glad you hear you have been reading and learning for months... it will sure help you be successful.

My best wishes you in the start of your new journey.  It truly will be here before you know it.

Have been thinking about this since my dad had the surgery 8 years ago. I wish I had just done it then. lol. I am going to Dr John Price in KC. He is the closest one that my insurance covered.
