My physician wants me to see some kind of a therapist before moving forward with my surgeon. She wants me to get my eating behaviors under control so Iwill stop eating for every reason, not becasue Iam hungry.

Anyone who lives near KC have any suggestions?

Here is who my WLS practice uses and he is specially trained in eating disorders.
Ravi Sabapathy, Psy.D
Clinical Psychologist
He is located on the Shawnee Mission Medical Center campus at I-35&75th street in Shawnee Mission, KS. It is very easy to find. If you would like to read more about him he is listed under 'Our Team' on my surgeon's website. www.kcbariatric.com
Good luck and just so you know this is a very important part of the success of most people having WLS.

Did you meet with him before you met with the surgeon? The Bariatric Center (Dr. Hoehn) is actually who I am using too. I read about Dr. Sabapathy - does sound like I need to go - just wondering when?

The process to get started is you attend an information seminar, there are normally 2 each month. The Surgeon (either Dr. Hoehn or Dr. Kowalski) will give a presentation about the three surgeries they offer and answer any general questions. Also there are post-op patients that tell how their lives have changed since having WLS and answer questions. You will get a folder with a packet you will need to fill out and return to the office. Once your insurance has been verified and the medical staff has reviewed the info given by you in the packet the office calls and makes an appointment for your first consulation with the Surgeon. At that point it will be decided what clearances you will need, which is decided by the Surgeon and or your insurance requirements. That is when normally you will make your first appointment with Dr. Sabapathy.
Sorry if that is more information than you wanted... LOL I work for Dr. Hoehn and I am responsible for the info seminars so I sometimes get a little carried away.
Feel free to email me if you have any questions that you would like to ask privately. I hope to get to meet you in person soon,
Connie

I attended the seminar on March 5th! Filling out the paper work now and have given my primary care physician the release form.
Thanks for all of the info, I will look for you when I get an appointment!

Great!! I am excited for you. I was the person at the registration table when you arrived. And I probably was the Lap Band patient speaking that evening. I was a patient before I became an employee. I have the highest respect and admiration for both of the surgeons at KC Bariatrics.
This is an exciting time for you as I remember how excited I was when I finally found a chance to get my life and health back.
Keep in touch,
Connie

I used Dr. Sabapathy as well, he was a very kind and understanding man.  My experience there was very acceptable.
