Today is my 3rd Surgi-versary!!

Hello, MO Peeps!

Today is my 3rd Surgi-Versary!  I cannot believe it has been THREE years since my RNY!  Initially I lost 113 lbs.
Unfortunately, I have gained 17 of those lbs back!  The first year was relatively easy.  I truly wasn't hungry and the first 6 months had no desire whatsoever to cheat!  I wish I could say that was true of me now!  The past year has been a struggle.  I can eat just about anything I want and that is NOT a good thing!  I've got to get back to the basics.  Especially with my the arteries in my heart having plaque in them.  I'm back on Liptor 20 mg, 2400 mg of Fish Oil and I take a en-coated baby aspirin (yes Dr. H said I could as long as it was coated!) every day.  Now I'm going to have to find the energy to exercise.  I suffer from Chronic Fatigue Syndrome as well as Chronic Lyme Disease.  To tell you the truth, there are days when I can barely move.  I've got to try and CHANGE that! As Paul wrote "I can do ALL THINGS, thru CHRIST who STRENGTHENS me!"

We joined the local athletic club last night.  They had a super promo so we decided to join.  Jake, my youngest son, is really into football and has been working out like crazy at school.  He's been wanting us to find somewhere we could workout as a family.  This club is right down town and is open 24/7.  They also have Yoga and Pilates classes which I'm going to look into this weekend.  Plus, I am going to start going to the water aerobics at the Y.  I've got to go whether my friend does or not!!

Some advice from an "old timer", start eating as you're suppose to BEFORE you have the RNY!  Then keep doing it after-wards.  Don't fall back into the same old routine as before where food is our comforter is some way.  Mama Jan addressed that in an earlier post.  I've been worried about various things and I know that I am eating simply to try and find comfort.  I do this although I KNOW that the only true COMFORTER is my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ! He allowed me to have RNY and no it's up to be to get back on track and start using the tool He gave me!

Also, everyone on here needs SUPPORT of some sort.  I LOVE this board and everyone one on it!  You all are the support I get.  I haven't found a very good support group around here and how I wish I lived closer to Springfield because I know you all have a GREAT support group!!!  I have made the decision to look again for a local support group.  Maybe, just maybe, I can find a good one this time.

Well, it's almost time for me to go pick up Jake.  We're going to open him a Saving Account today so he can start saving for his car.  He's starting with $70.  He doesn't think it's much, but like I told him, it's better than nothing!  I truly hope he learns the value of a dollar!

I hope you all have a GREAT weekend!  Looks like the weather is going to be beautiful and we might even have a few spring showers.  Oh, I am soooooooo ready for SPRING!

Love you all,

Debbie D.

Dear Debbie,
Congratulations on the third anniversary of your rebirth as a healthier thinner person. Don't be too hard on yourself. I think 17 pounds rebound is about normal - not acceptable but it does happen. You were a lightweight to start with - as I was - so we just have to work harder to maintain. I have been doing Atkins for a week - trying to get 10 pounds off. I think I can do this for a month and hope it stays off. I had fallen into bad habits of carbs and grazing and needed something to bring me back to reality. I'll let you know at the end of four weeks how I've done.
Hugs and again congratulations.

"WLS is about making better choices, a healthier lifestyle and seeing how little you can eat.  Portion control is the key to all weight loss surgeries.  Bottom line - it isn't how much you can eat - it is how little you can eat."

Debbie, Congratulations on three years of healthy living. You have your tool and just need to begin using it again. You have done very well not to have gained more. You are on the right track in joining the gym and sounds like you have great support. I am happy you know we are all here for you. Miss you and can't wait to see you again.

Hugs

  Happy 3rd Surgi~versary!

Debbie Darl'n!!!

You have done wonderful my friend and are a great inspiration!  I don't think it is reasonable to think that we are never going to put anything in our mouths that we shouldn't but it is a must to learn to live with the limitations we need to have!  You are doing fantastic!

Lana, Jan, Cristal, Barbara S., Susan and Bec:

Thanks for the words of encouragement!  I guess having gained "only" 17 lbs in the past 3 years isn't that bad.  I'm going to try and lose at least 10 of the lbs.  I've started the no drinking 30 minutes before, during, or 30 minutes after a meal.  I've never been that constant in doing that so I'm going to see if that will help.  I can already tell that is going to be a hard habit to break!  I've spent a lifetime of drinking with my meals.  I did seem to get full quicker...

I did walk 30 minutes on the treadmill yesterday.  I had it set for "weight loss" but I'm thinking what I really need is the Cardio workout setting.  David and I are going up there sometime this morning.  Will see if I can do 30 minutes on the treadmill with the Cardio.  I know my heart rate did get up to where it needs to be for a Cardio workout yesterday, so that is good.  I took my blackberry phone, plugged in my headset and listened to the music I've downloaded on it.  The time really went by pretty quickly.  Of course, the have tv's but I would prefer to listen to music most of the time.

Well, gotta scoot.  Hope you all have a GREAT day and thanks again for being my support group!  I need all of you!!

Debbie D.

P.S.  Bec, those jumping Mascots made me smile this morning!!

Congrats on a job well done. It is also a wake up call for me. I am so worried about rebound weight gain so I am going to get back to basic right now before it happens. I hope I can even lose a couple more pounds. I can eat stuff I should not and that causes me concern. It wouldn't take long for 17 to creep up. Thanks for giving me a wake up.
