WHATS HAPPENING SUNDAY 2-21-10

Jan C.
on 2/20/10 4:23 pm - Cedar Creek, MO

Another good day yesterday wasn’t it? Cloudy all day but temps were really warm…they keep saying it is going to rain and our temps go down …they said they think all of the snow will stay north but we will get 1.5 to 2 inches of rain. Wow that is a lot of rain again. I sure hope we have a bet summer this year than we did last year. . Never did get really hot last year. Was barely able to grow veggies with all the clouds and rain.

Went to Monet yesterday to Mikaelas birthday party….3 years old…she is such a sweetie…she tried her best to get me to stay there with her. She said Joe Joe can go home you stay here with me and sleep in my bed. Lol she knows she has her Mimi wrapped around her pretty little finger. …I love all my babies but she is just sort of special with me. I guess cause she makes me feel special too.

Well don’t know how secure my job is there has been a drop in census in the home …had several die and now 2 in hospital…since I am part time they may eliminate my job. Will see….I know they are only approved to hire so many lic. Personel per so many residents. The hours are the same just have people doing more work …when they have a full house they can justify med techs on each station per the day and eve. Shift . But when there isn’t the nusrse have to charge and give meds. And that is too hard on an old woman lol…

SUSAN::: There is always someone in the dining rooms ..they just may not be right by his side since he can feed himself….I guess she meant if she had been closer to him but even being right by him isn’t necessarily going to warn you fast enough to keep them from hitting someone. ..I feel sorry for your dad cause I know which lady it is I bet and she can be very bad…and she has been know to hit several people but don’t know if she has ever hit another resident. She may have been grabbing his food or something too. don’t know but could have been she does all of that.

Anyway I will be praying for your dad that this new med will help him. I noticed the other day that he didn’t seem to know what was going on. When you talk to him he just smiles and nods.

COLETTE:::: yes they sent Susans dad to the hospital for test and evaluation. He is still in the hosptial.

And there is always either a Lpn or an RN in the dinning room in fact there is 3 or at least the nights I work there is. Plus the two med techs and several aides who are passing trays and I will jump in and help them do that but as soon as the trays start coming into the restortive dining room I go back and start feeding some of them. But like I said you cant be right beside them all all of the time.

No we don’t have an Alzheimer’s unit. When we talk about our unit we are talking about a step down unit from the hospital. Holds 20 people I think but they come and go so fast it is hard to keep it filled. I think it would be better served to hold Alzheimer residents. ….but this unit was built and furnished by the hospital. They closed their step down unit at the hospital so this is their alternative.

Last year when I used the tubs for some of my tomatoes I had two in a tub….and they did great. I have about 12 of the tubs and think I will put my tomatoes in those. How many tomatoes do you usually plant to have enough for salsa and stews and soups. ???I think I had about 15 last year but I was sharing with Andy and Susan some…

I wish our electric was as cheap as our water is. But it sure isn’t . it is taking all of my paychecks to pay just the electric bills this winter. …

JEANIE RAE::::so just a couple of days and will be your behavior class huh…welll I hope you learn to behave…you really need it you know. …lol just kidding. I know it seems like it will be forever till you have your date but even when you get the date it will seem like a long time till it come around. Just start like you are with the exercising and get it to be a habit of certain days and don’t miss if you can keep from it. It will be setting up a habit that you need …ask me I know. don’t do but I know. .lol

Proud of you and your NO carb burger…if you just had meat there is no carbs there.

I try to do that even if they don’t have one like that I just take the bread and toss it quick so Im not tempted lol …

BEC::::: well here is the busy bee again lol…quilting now on top of every thing else? Wow. Hey that will be neat to use that out in front as your garden. I am going to do a lot canning I think this year. A lot of my frozen things got freezer burn and I thought my seal a meal sealed them good but evidently it didn’t . so I am going to try to can most of my stuff this year. Maybe some of the frozen stuff ok if I know we will be using it fast.

Did you just plant one tomato plant per tub last year? Colette was wondering and the ones of mine that I planted in tubs I planted two per tub and they worked great.

Where is Paul using all the rock at? In the drive way or for the foundation of the new barn? Guess he has to have someplace to park all those tractors now doesn’t he? Lol he needs about a couple hundred acres to farm with all of that equipment ..

I don’t know how you can run doesn’t your loose skin flap on you? Lol mine sounds like someone clapping hands for me …especially my arms. I can sort of keep the rest of it steady to a certain degree but those arm are flapping like the wings of a giant condor.

You all still have snow on the ground? Wow that is a long time. And they are saying that you all will probably get more.

I found I can order my sweet potato slips from Parks and Gurney too. No I never found anyone around that had them locally. I looked and looked. I guess we could make our our. You take a sweet potato and cut it in half and stick the toothpicks in it so it rest on the glass and keep the bottom in the water …it will sprout several little vines and that are the slips. But it takes awhile to do it.

You eating the carbs is probably what made you want more and more of them …they are so addicting. It is horrible …and you never should have ever put any sugar in your mouth , bad girl you know that. Lol

You can do it tho…and I bet you will see a drop in weight and that should encourage you…you are strong. So keep it up …

JO::::: yeah we have raised several grandkids…some longer than others. But we have had 3 different ones live with us at different times and for long periods of time. But it is a lot easier than raising your own is because you have the benefit of knowing that some things arent as important as you thought they were with your own kids. Lol …pick your battles you know.

That was sad that you didn’t get to the home show. Sometimes that is what you get tho isn’t it? The last time I went to one in Springfield they had 2 other things going on in buildings right next to it and down town was swamped. We went but it was elbow to elbow thru most of the area.

I don’t like it when you are being pushed and shoved every which way…don’t enjoy any of the show at all.

Susan,
thanks for answering.  Hang in there, it is so hard to see a loved one's health getting worse.  I force my husband to do things and try to keep his memory in focus but I can still see him going down hill. He forgets all the short term things but can remember things way back even in his childhood.  I will keep him at the dining room table and ask him things just so he does remember.  It is so sad - but I have a lot of wonderful memories also.  His circulation is so poor  and getting worse, so we take one day at a time.  You look wonderful girl.  God Bless, Colette

Good Morning All...

Boy is it pouring rain all night and still.  We are under a flood warning. It has melted most of the snow now except for in the fence rows... we have had snow on the ground for a long long time now.

Well drama in the barn yard... since I wrote yesterday, the new "rooster" (Paul) is upset. (Previous rooster ~ history~!)  He went out to shut the door before he went to work and there was a opossum in there in the nest!  Oh boy Paul did NOT like that... he shut him up in the "yard" and was going to take care of him when he got home this morning and guess what?  Yep he escaped!  Now Paul is on the lookout... he says, "he will be back" and Paul won't be happy till it is eliminated!

Mimi ~ Paul is making the pad for his barn and the working on the drive too... it is so very very muddy around here and just needs some work... yes he is making the barn for all the tractors... don't know about the farming they are all old and it would probably cost more to keep them all running than he would ever make ~ha

Running?  Yes my skin would "scream" if I did not have some very very good exercise pants I wear... they are made so well and hold up "under pressure" if you know what I mean! ~tee hee  The sil got them on a clearance rack two years ago and paid $2 a piece... I have four pair.  I am going to have to get out and try and find some shorts like them for summer... I got some last year and they were just "ok" for walking but I need some that come down to just above my knees and made out the right material and good quality to hold everything in place.  I know "if" I can find them I am probably going to have to pay a ridiculous price for them... but then maybe not we will see.  I have flab under my arms too but don't seem to have a problem with them yet... maybe when they get looser?

Don't know what I will do about the sweet potato slips? Call around again and see what the nursery's say I guess.

I got my first Dresden plate all cut out last night so I could see what it was going to look like... it was great but maybe one of the pieces I might want to change... a bit too dark for the rest of the colors... will just have to see what else I have... I now will have to practice with the zig~zag on my machine and see how well I can get the blocks on to the backing?

I already have two more quilts in the works too... not started but some of the material picked out.  After I get better at it and if I like it I'm going to make my girls each one.

Well...I was exercising at mid~night last night and am NOT going to let that happen again! ~ha So better get on it here soon.

Susan ~ I will give Andy a call soon... thanks.

Hope you all have a great day.

Bec,
You  are a human dynamo!!!!!!!  I should be able to do all that exercise like you too as I am home.

I walk 3-4 times a week one mile and have a exercise for arms but difficult at the present. I have arthritis and poor mobility in upper left arm. Dr. told me it was crepitus, but I have a feeling it is more than that. So going to go to ortho man and maybe they can give me shots.  If surgery, it will be tabled till summer when one of the girls will come. I know something is wrong as it hurts frequently when I raise my arm which I cant  much.  also depends on how I sleep it hurts too.  Guess old age is showing me!!!!  LOL   God Bless, Colette

Jan,
Well it is a sheet of ice on our driveway and walks so I stayed home from church this am.  Had already told DH last nite he was not going.  He will only walk with walker and not ride, and It takes a long time for him to move from car to church.  But I dont want to discourage him from walking as long as he can.  He is about the same and no falls recently.  Evenwhen I am here he does do that sometimes so I fully understand how it happens at the nursing homes.  Had him to have pt checked this week and a hair cut and he was bushed the rest of the day.  I know we are always supposed to have someone (licensed) in dining hall and when I was DON and there, the LPN's thought they could go up front and chart but I told them no - u stay here too and help get residents fed.  Sorta didnt like it at first but they saw I helped too.  It is hard to believe that its been a year since he was at KU and I had to quit work.  I still miss it and especially the people and being with them. Just pray daily the Lord will let me live long enough to take care of him.

Last year I planted about 16 tomatoe plants and they produced ok but not a whole lot.  So I am going to plant about 6 in tubs and a few peppers too.  the rural water is so high and all the work I have and with grass etc, I will patronize the farmers markets.  Call me lazy this year

I am anxious to see all my tulips bloom this year andcant wait for spring also.

God bless, Colette

Hi OH,

Jan~just looked at the pics you uploaded of you and the grandbabies, you look like your in paradise. Isn't it great how holding those innocent little ones can make you feel so good in a hurry? I love it.

Yeah, I'm getting really excited, I think the weather is gonna be ok to drive so won't be anything to make them have to change the date again.

Also looked at the COF Pics you have posted, makes me know for sure I'm doing the right thing.

Susan~how are you doing? Hope things work out for your Dad. I am keeping you all in my prayers.

Bec~I love reading your posts, you give me hope that I can get busy like you are and love what I am doing. I didn't realize how much of life I have missed by staying shut up in the house. Have been doing some delivery jobs and really look forward to getting back into the thick of things again.

I have some good mentors on this message board and you are one of them.

Jo~We went to one of the shows they had in KC one year when we lived there and it was so crowded and we had such a misserable time getting around we left early. I love being around people, but not when the crowds are that big. If we go somewhere like that now we try to do it when the crowds are lighter.

Collette~Don't blame you for not getting on the Ice. Hoping it will get better soon. I keeping my fingers crossed we don't get any snow tomorrow, if we get it too early our roads into town sometimes glaze over. maybe since it's been warm down here we will luck out.

My DH is having some problems but not too bad right now, I have seen a difference in him since he was diagnosed with COPD, we had no idea he had it, just kind of starting getting bad all of a sudden. He is hard headed though and I keep hoping he will get tired of not feeling well and want to work harder to get as much out of life as he can. God knows it took me a long time to accept that I could change enough to have a good, productive life.

Again, I hope everyone has a good day, will post after I get home tomorrow night. The Class lasts till 4:30. Talk to ya later.

Rain, snow, rain, freezing rain.....we've had it all in the last 24 hours and 4-6" of snow are forecasted.  I started to go out to get the paper this morning but didn't because of the freezing rain falling.

Jan, how big are the tubs you have for your tomatoes.  Max loves tomatoes but the squirrels kept getting them last year.

I bought a window sill box for strawberries.  I'm going to set it up along with my herb garden this afternoon.  Today I cleaned out kitchen cabinets and now everything is in Tupperware or Lock & Lock, so much easier to store.  I baked Cheesecake Squares that looks delicious.
