Hello,

I am wondering if anyone can tell me what to expect at the Plastic Surgeon consult? I am going in for a Tummy Tuck and Breast reduction consult. I am wondering what to expect? I have known several ppl that have gone to Dr. Hawes and Dr. Price I am wondering if I should expect a consult fee? I called the Dr. and they said to expect it, but I have been told they say that to everyone and how do they decide if you have to pay or not? Any info would be greatly appreciated!!

Some doctors charge a consult fee and some do not. Most who do will apply it to surgery if you use them. Best to ask upfront.

I agree with Susie, Ask upfront. I saw 4 or 5 and most charged but, would credit towards the billing if I went with them. At the Resident Program at KU where I had my surgery, there was no charge. You might want to check them out. I am really happy with the program. Can't say enough good things about Dr. Ponnuru. (Pronounced Pon-new-rue.)

When I saw Dr. Hawes it was a $75 consultation fee but since I will be using him to do the stomach skin removal they billed medicare and I only had to pay $11.

Since Medicare/Medicaid does not pay for a breast reduction they might charge you the consultation fee, its best that ya find out if your not prepared to pay it.

As far as what to expect in the consult, you'll see Dr. Hawes first, he'll explain what he'll do and all that then his nurse will take you to another room to take pictures of what your going to have done, she was real nice and very very considerate.

I was told that Medicare and Medicaid would pay for the Breast Reduction and maybe the Panni. I am real confused, because I hear different things? I guess the best thing to do is to wait and see what the Dr. says for hisself. I was wondering if anyone has had a consult with Dr. Hawes *&* Dr. Price? I am considering it. I really dont want to travel too far out of the Joplin area. I found a Dr. that does accept Medicare, but he doesnt the Medicaid. So, now I am looking into other surgeons. Do I have to completely undress? Do they take pics? I am just wondering what all is involved in the consult?

Medicare/Medicaid will ONLY pay for the Panni, that's it!  Neither of them pre-approve it either, you just have to have it done and the doc's turn it into them, 95% of the time it's paid, especially if its really medically neccessary.  Yes they take pics and yes you have to undress, she'll prolly let you keep your underwear on, she's very very considerate at Dr. Hawes office when she takes the pics.
