Plarn Tote Bag
Gonna try this again. I typed my pattern for Recycled Grocery Bag Tote. There is a picture on my profile of the bag I don't think I can be lucky enough to get it posted with this. You have no idea what I have been throught trying to remember how to use the tools of this computer to get this done. But I never claimed to be smart and if I don't use something often I have to learn all over again. LOL
RECYCLED GROCERY BAG TOTE
You'll need about 50 grocery bags to finish the tote as the directions go, you can shorten the bag by making less of the mesh rows. These bags are fun to make and to give to your family and friends, keeps my hands busy when I'm home relaxing.
To make the balls of plarn flatten the bag and fold length wise in half two or three times, then cut strip about 1.5 inches wide. Join the loops and roll the plarn into a large ball.
I use a size N crochet hook, I have seen some patterns that use smaller hooks, the smaller your hook is the smaller your bag will probably be.
Stitches I used are
ch= chain
sc= single crochet
hdc= half double crochet
sl st= slip stitch
Chain 24
Rnd 1-2 hdc in 2nd ch from hook(starting chain), then hdc in next 20 st. 3 hdc in last chain, then hdc on opposite side to the chain to the starting chain, si st in top of starting ch.
Rnd 2- ch 2, 1 hdc in same st. as join, 3 had in next St., 2 hdc in next stitch, (this helps keep bottom flat) 20 hdc, 2 hdc hi next, 3 hdc in next, 2 hdc in next hdc in ea to joining with sl st in top of ch 2.
Rnd 3- ch 2,1 hdc in next 2 St., 2 hdc in next, 3 hdc in next, 2 hdc in next, 2 hdc in ea. Sc to end, join with sl st to top of ch2,
( This row begins the side of bag.)
Rnd 4- ch 2, working the back of loop only on this rnd, hdc in ea st around, skip last stitch join in top of ch
2.
Rnd 5-11- working both loops of stitch,hdc around, skip last stitch and join as before.
Starting the mesh part of the bag
Rnd 12- ch 1 sc in same stitch as joining, ch 3 skip 2 sc, sc in next sc, continue around. ( mark 1st st., this will help when you count rows, you can make this bag as deep as you want I usually do 10 rows of the mesh
Rnd 13-22 You will be working in rounds, ch 3 sc in next ch 3 loop around till you have as many rows as
needed. End last round with sl st in ch 3 loop.
Rnd 23- sl st to next ch 3 loop, ch 1, sc in same loop, 2 sc in same loop, then 3 sc in ea loop around. Join with sl st in 1st sc.
Rnd 24- ch 1, sc in same st as joining, then sc in next 13 sc, ch 14 (this is the foundation of the handle) skip 10 sc, sc in next 21 st, (this is not exact try folding the bag to make sure the handles are centered and add or minus a stitch or two.) ch 14 then sc to begin of rnd, (I skip the very last stitch on this row it keeps it a little neater). Join with sl st to 1st sc.
Rnd 25- ch 1, sc in same st, then sc in ea Sc to handle, work 16 sc in ch 10 loop, then sc around to next ch 10 loop, work 16 sc in this loop, then sc to end of row. Join with sl st.
Rnd 26- ch 1 sc. In same st, then sc in ea around. Finish with sl st in first sc. Fasten off leaving about 3 of 4 inches to weave into work.
Yay it worked. It makes me happy to be able to share something like this with my friends hope you can use it.
Hugs
Barbara
