Ulcers?

I had a RNY on 10/30/08.  I have reached my goal weight and have not experienced any problems since adjusting after surgery.  Recently I have been experiencing sharp pains in the area of my pouch.  Usually they come and go and pass before too long, so I had assumed it was common gas.  But this time the pains are rebounding in nature (when I apply pressure they lessen) and are definitely not subsiding within minutes.  This current episode has been going on for about 12 hours and I am becoming worried.

I know ulcers are a common complication and I have tremendous stress issues which often cause ulcers as well.  Besides the pain, what other things should I look for that might indicate ulcers?

Thanks for your help.

I am not a doctor but it sounds like something I had years ago and it turned out to be the beginning of an a ulcer.  I would check with your doctor to be sure.

Karla,
I am having pain also and wondered if you had found out anything.  Also, how are you feeling?  Is it better?  I was afraid that I haven't been chewing good enough and perhaps my pouch was blocked.
Let me know what you have found.
Sharlene

Apparently my stomach pain was associated with medication I was prescribed by my family physician; and yes, it could very well have developed into an ulcer if I'd continued taking it. I now have a suppository that I take for my joint issues.  Since discontinuing the medication, the pain has virtually disappeared.  Thankfully I addressed the issue before any real damage was done.

The medication combined with the high stress levels I'm dealing with was a recipe for disaster, so I am also trying to work on reducing my stress as well.  Luckily I had no blood in my stool, and since GI scopes pose their own danger after a RNY, we are monitoring the situation.  I feel almost back to normal now, but will definitely be more careful about medications.
