Daily Bible Reading - Thursday - January 14th

As I was reading this morning in Genesis it really jumped out at me about Leah, how in yesterdays reading she was praising God for Him giving her children, esp with her 4th child Judah.  In today’s reading she let her jealousy of her sister get the best of her when she gave her maidservant to Jacob to bear her more children.  Not once was God mentioned anymore, she had previously viewed her children as a gift from God but now sees these sons just as a good fortune saying “How lucky I am" or “How happy I am" instead of giving God the praise anymore.  It was almost as if Leah and Rachel were keeping score in how many children they bore.  Just makes me look and think of how jealously will ruin a person, Leah got so jealous that she forgot where her children actually came from, what a shame.  Jealously in our lives can really take our focus off God and get us off track,  I know it has with me.  There’s been times in my life I was jealous over the silliest things and it got my focus off God and onto other things.  Praise God He is a loving and forgiving God and helps us get our sights back on track when we wonder off.

Today’s Reading

Genesis 30:1-31:16
Matthew 10:1-23
Psalm 12:1-8
Proverbs 3:13-15

Daily Devotional

"'Don't be afraid,' the prophet answered. 'Those who are with us are more than those who are with them'"
(2 Kings 6:16, NIV)

Everyone has times when they feel overwhelmed or "outnumbered" by the things that are coming against them. You may have heard the saying, "When it rains, it pours." For example, just about the time the air conditioner needs repair in your house, the transmission goes out in your car. It seems like one thing after another. It may feel as if all the forces of darkness are coming against you, but the scripture promises that with God on your side, you have all the resources you need to have complete victory. You are never outnumbered because the Greater One lives in you!

The next time you're feeling anxious, fearful, or worried about anything, remember He's on your side. If God is for you, who can be against you? He promises to guide and protect you and lead you into victory in every area of your life!

A PRAYER FOR TODAY

"Heavenly Father, thank You for Your faithfulness to me. Thank You for Your peace even in the midst of the storms of life. I know that You are with me, and I can stand strong because You will lead me into victory all the days of my life. In Jesus' Name. Amen."

I Corinthians 15:57 - But thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.
