WHATS HAPPENING SATURDAY 1-9-10

Jan C.
on 1/8/10 3:44 pm - Cedar Creek, MO

Well found a way to either make me feel more miserable or better cant really decide lol I put Tucson on my weather bug and so now the temp it is displaying in the start up bar is at this moment 58 little cooler this but is suppose to get up to 68 Friday and Saturday and Sunday is back up to 72...lol well back to Branson where the temp on Friday is 5 only suppose to get to 11.….now why did I go look at that???? All that did was make me mad again. Lol but I sure am tired of this cold….did I mention I don’t like the cold

I have been wearing out the pages of the 100s of flower and veggie seed catalogs I get in the mail…I already have orders made out for about 2000.00 dollars worth of seeds LOL LOL not really but I could pretty easy .don’t know where in the world I would plant that much but I could sure buy them. I guess I could grow one of everything. Crazy old woman huh? No just a gardener…it is so hard to not order things that you don’t have …need about 100 acres I wonder if that would be enough for me? Anyway I have some tiny cauliflowers coming up in the green house. Now to keep them warm enough for them to grow.

I have been looking at the inside of my house too long. I am wanting to decluter. I have 4 large plastic totes that I emptied up of old Christmas junk….think I will take a lot of stuff and put it in the totes. Like I have about 20 books that I have read, hard backs that I don’t read again , once I read a b ook I don’t read it again. The only books I ever did that to was my series of Little Women books , I would probably read them again now if I had them lol ….and oh yeah Nancy Drew….were these anyone elses favorites???? So what was your favorite when you were a kid???

I just got a phone call from a friend of mine , she lives in Minn. And works for a big newspaper there , they just walked in tonight and were told that they were closing the newspaper down for good , that they would be paid for tonight but they could go home right now. That makes another big newspaper that ha**** the ground ….all of them are going online where a couple of people can do all the work that it use to take lots and lots of people to do. Another signs of the times I guess. I feel so sorry for her….she just made her last payment on her bankruptcy that she filed 7 years ago….now this. She is a reporter and went to college to be a reporter ….has worked all of her life as a reporter , she is now 58 and hasn’t a clue what to do now. She isn’t well so don’t know what will happen to her. She isn’t married is by herself totally .

BEC::::: I know that Pennys would love to keep you on…there are so many people working part time because they cant find anything full time. Work is hard to find and not going to get better for awhile if ev er….

Sounds like you are really getting your moneys worth on the running and walking. Last time I saw you , you complained that your calves were the only thing that was tight.. So is it helping the sagging???has to of helped some right???

Oh I think you will be thankful and I don’t thing you really realize how much you have changed. I think we need to look at a picture of ourselves in all our glory once in a while to know only appreciate our surgery but to also congratulate ourselves on the weight loss we have had.

I am going to post a copy of the 5 day pouch test at the end of this in case you havent found it. ….it is suppose to get the carbs out of our system and suppose to reset our pouch to feel like it did right after surgery. …I have had to do it twice in a row before that it worked completely.

COLETTE::::oh my I wish someone would come a plow your driveway for you…that is dangerous to not be able to get out….you be careful and don’t fall out there in the snow…if you go out take the cell phone with you ok???don’t just run out with out a coat and stuff on…if you fell and with only house clothes on you would freeze quickly there by yourself. And hubby couldn’t help….

Hey we go to AZ you know you are welcome anytime. Really.

JO:::::::: glad you got up the nerve to go back to work…too cold for that brrrrrrrrrrr…

Yep that is what happens to me with left overs. So it really doesn’t even pay to bring them home from the rest

Lol sounds like me the things I really want to eat arent good for me at all.

LANA::::: well I think I have gotten my share of whinning in since it has been cold lol maybe not normally a complainer but I have been doing my fair share lol

I know everyone up north has so much more than we do that I feel ashamed of my complaining.

Will see you on the 25th will try to remind you again that day lol

JEANIE-RAE::::::if you don’t like the cold now just wait till you lose all your insulation….you will hate it and be like an ice burg all the time….like your bones have frozen.

So I may have another ex Missourian to add to our compound in AZ….

The Afrin is probably what got the nose primed for bleeding , most of the side effect of nasal sprays , all except saline, one of the side effects is always nose bleed

Hey I found something to do too…..I was cleaning out from under our bed and found a wooden doll house that I can build….you know one of the ones that you have to glue and put together. Ive had it forever and have never worked on it….has jillion little cedar shingles to put on the roof and gable ends lol wonder how far I will get on it. ????lol

BELOW IS THE 5 DAY POUCH TEST….NOT A DIET BUT TO RESET YOUR POUCH AND CLEAN YOUR BODY OF CARBS…

Days One & Two: Liquid Protein

The first two days are all liquids. You can have as many low-carb protein shakes as you like to satisfy hunger or cravings. In addition drink at least six 8-ounce glasses of water each day. The purpose of all liquids is to break any snacking, grazing or processed carbohydrate habits. In addition the liquids will work to cleanse your system and prepare you for the following three days. Try to reduce your caffeine intake as well, but do not stop caffeine cold turkey or you will feel sick and frustrated potentially losing the desire to continue with the pouch test.

If you notice symptoms of carbohydrate withdrawal you can eat a small piece of melon or an orange. You can also try a dose of Emergen-C which should reduce headache, dizziness or cramping from carbohydrate withdrawal.

The next three days you get to eat as much as you want as often as you want! Ahhh, but there's a catch: it has to be solid protein and you only get 15 minutes each time you sit down to eat.

Day 3: Soft Protein
Protein Recommendations: canned fish (tuna or salmon) mixed with lemon and seasoned with salt and pepper, eggs cooked as desired seasoned with salt pepper and/or salsa, fresh soft fish (tilapia, sole, orange roughy), baked or grilled, and lightly seasoned. This starts your program with "soft" protein. Measure your portion (1 cup volume or 4-6 ounces weight) and eat only until you feel full, not overfull. Remember, no water for 30 minutes before or after you meal, and no fluids with your meal. We are going back to the beginning and fluids will prevent you from feeling the pouch. If you need to add a bit of Miracle Whip or mayonnaise to the canned fish I understand, but keep it to a minimum so the meat is not too moist. One reason we lose the sense of tightness in our pouch is that we eat "slider foods" - foods that are too moist and do not stay in the pouch very long, they slide right through the stoma.

Day 4: Firm Protein
Protein Recommendations: ground meat (beef, turkey, lamb) cooked dry and lightly seasoned, shellfish, scallops, lobster steamed and seasoned only with lemon, salmon or halibut steaks, grilled and lightly seasoned. By now you should be experiencing that familiar tightness that will reassure you that your pouch is working. Remember to drink plenty of water between meals. Take some time to meditate and rediscover the wonder of your pouch. Often we don't like that uncomfortable tightness of the pouch, which is why we gradually move toward slider foods that don't make us uncomfortable. It is always my preference to eat moist protein so I don't get uncomfortable, but this allows me to consume more than I should. Rediscovering the pouch with this 5-day plan reminds me of how the tool really works. I hope by now you are rediscovering your tool and enjoying the hope and excitement because your pouch still works.

A word about constipation: A shift to high protein diet often results in constipation. To relieve this you may try adding a fibrous fruit snack to your morning and a fibrous vegetable snack in the afternoon. Fruit suggestions are apples, berries, apricots, cantaloupe or oranges. For vegetables try leafy greens, zucchini, cucumbers, spinach, summer squash or string beans.

Day 5: Solid Protein

Protein Recommendations: white meat poultry cooked dry and lightly seasoned, beef steak (if tolerated) grilled or broiled. Remember to chew chew chew. Measure your portion (4-6 ounces) and eat only until you feel your pouch tighten. Remember, only 15 minutes per meal, so you'll have to work fast to chew your food completely. By now you should be out of any carb cycle you were in and perhaps you have lost a pound or two. You will have new confidence in your pouch and your ability to work the tool for your health and emotional well being.

Good morning!!  It's 5 degrees this morning.  I didn't go the orientation for teaching people to read.  I've dealt with getting out in this weather all week, except Thursday, and I just didn't want to get out.  I have to go to Walmart but later today.

Jan, thanks for posting the pouch test.  I've considered doing it but haven't.  I ordered several protein supplements from Bariactric Eating plus their RTD Believe.  When I get the order I will start my test.

I was a Nancy Drew fan.  My maiden name was Drew so that made it even better.  I loved the Little House on the Prairie series.  Reading has always a favorite thing to do and it still is.  I'm an avid reader.  Jan, you should take the books you don't want to a book store that buys books.  I get most of my books from the library but those that I buy and no longer want I sell them to a shop here.

Too bad about your friend.  It has to be devastating to be let go and to have not known it was coming.  My sister has been looking for a job since last February.

I printed a couple recipes from BE to make this weekend.  One is Chili Relleno Puff.  DH probably won't touch it since it has chilies in it.  He immediately thinks it will be too spicey.  The other recipe is Broccoli Bacon Quiche.  I have trouble digesting broccoli but this will be chopped fine so I should be able to eat it.

I need to get off here and get busy.  Supposed to be 30 tomorrow.

Hello Mimi and Mo....

They are saying we are going to get a heat wave here pretty soon... above 30 yippee! But boyee will that make it super super muddy around here as we have drifts above the cars... Paul was able to get his diesel tractor started yesterday... I was surprised as cold as it was. He scooped the drive...I said scoop because it was too deep for our blade it just wanted to skim over the top... but now we can get right on out...

Mimi... thanks for posting the 5 day pouch test ... I need it for sure as like so many I LOVE CARBS STILL...

I am going to start on Monday when I have my teeth out maybe it will not be so painful that way... ~ha since I will need to be on a soft diet anyway...will just go ahead with the pouch test. Have stocked in a new supply of protein powder and such. Am going to make a pork loin for the days I can have the heavier meat, I'm disgusted that Wal~Mart quit carrying the K.C. Masterpiece diet BBQ Sauce... seems like every time I find a product I like and is really useful they quit carrying it.... oh gripe Becky gripe! ~tee hee  BBQ pulled pork is so yummy and I seem to tolerate it well.  The pork loin is very lean and high in protein as well.  Also have some sea scallops I'm going to try as wellk, and some shrimp too.

Will also be making Connie's recipe for jerky next week as well. Can't wait to see how that turns out.

On the exercise... I guess I've firmed up some all over but still have sagging skin... that will not change no matter how much exercise I do, seems like I have little balls of really tight muscles and then sag and bag other places... still my "troublest" spot is around the middle as I protect my back... I have been doing crunches on the ball but do not see much improvement in that area. Also I use hand weights when I jog in the house...I do not carry them when I'm outside.  Maybe when the weather get better?  Wow my back hurts just thinking about it! ~tee hee

Have regular ole house chores to do today and then want to catch up on some reading.  Already have supper made for Paul so it should be an easy day. Good thing it's half over already...~ha

Blessings to all,

Bec

Good morning Oh, well it just turned afternoon, oh well. We are cleaning the refrigerator out today, and just made pickled eggs. We love them and have decided to start making them at 2 week intervals, even if I don't like them after surgery DH loves them and he can use them as a snack.

Jan I'm so sorry your friend lost her job, maybe she can use her experience to  find work at one of her local tv networks, I know that it's tough when you are older than 50 to find a job sometimes but there are places that look for experience.

Glad you found a project to work on, really sounds like something fun. My goodness if I tried to do something like that all five of my GDs would be in the middle of it.

Jo- If your broccoli quiche turns out good, I'd like the recipe. I have use leftover broccoli in fritatas before, would love to try a quiche.

Well looks like one more day of super cold, then God willing we are gonna warm back up. My bones already ache when I get cold, don't want to think about how they're gonn ache when all the insulation is gone.LOL. Maybe I'll be so busy then I won't notice it.

Well gotta get busy again, trying to get my kitche cleaned back up, after being sick for almost two weeks and only doing dishes and wiping spills up it almost needs a spring cleaning. My DH and DS both cook for themselves when I'm not well and unfortunately neither of them are good a cleaning up.

Stay warm and look to the future, we will get warm again.

I am gonna be working everyday for three months filling in for a special ed aide. I hope I can handle it. Maybe my attitude will get better if the weather gets better.
I love to read also and my favorite as a child was Pippy Longstocking.
Come on heat wave.
