Hey everyone! I'm just now starting to look for surgeons and was hoping that I could get some input from others in the Missouri area. I live in Joplin and my husband and I are both interested in WLS and would like to have it done as close to home as possible but will travel if need be for a good and trusted surgeon. We both have United Health Care and I am also on Medicare as well. I'd love to hear about your experiences w/ WLS and will take any good surgeon recommendations as well.

hello Aimee, welcome to the Mo. Board...glad you could come in and see us...Dr. Hornbostel in Sedalia is tops with me. he is just great.im sure you would love him too. everyone does it seems.
i know he takes Medicare. because that is what i am on. His office staff and his head nurse Margie is the best too. if you call the office and they are busy Margie will call you right back as soon as she can. oh year she is also married to Dr. H.  he holds a seminar on a sunday after noon  when and if you call them you can ask about the seminar. he does them all himself. the office phone is 660-473-1437 now i hope that one is too the office lol. keep coming back to see us.

Aimee,
Welcome to the board. We LOVE new people. I second Jan's recommendation of Dr. Hornbostel if you want RNY. My doctor, Christopher Edwards, in Springfield is a fantastic surgeon but he really prefers Lap Band.
It would be great if you and hubby had your surgeries close to the same time so you could support one another. I am three years out and have lost 100-110 pounds and am 65 years old. My only regret is that I didn't have the surgery much sooner in my life. I am so much healthier now.
Hugs and come back often.

"WLS is about making better choices, a healthier lifestyle and seeing how little you can eat.  Portion control is the key to all weight loss surgeries.  Bottom line - it isn't how much you can eat - it is how little you can eat."
