I'M A KLUTZ I GUESS
OK, I know I should have been on here sooner but wanted to wait until after a Doctors appointment on Friday.
Last Saturday, 11/7, I was at the gym in Nixa with John. I got finished and he wasn't so I went to the locker room and decided I'd take my shower while I waited for him. I hopped into the shower, got showered off and then needed to go to the toilet BAD.
I looked out in the main room and it was empty - always is early in the AM - so I got out of the shower and started to go over to the handicapped stall and my feet flew over my head as soon as I stepped out of the shower area. I landed flat on my right hip - on my side and my first thought, because I landed so hard, was "I've broken my hip". I of course was naked and on this slick floor but I thought I could get up on one leg but just kept slipping around. (Wouldn't you have liked to see a video of a fat, old woman sliding naked on a bathroom floor?) I finally got a hold of my sweatshirt and put it on and slid myself into the stall and onto the seat. I realized that I needed help so a woman came in to use the toilet and I asked her to go out and get John, who I knew by this time would be waiting in the lobby for me. He came into the bathroom and tried to help me get my stretchy pants on but I couldn't even lift my foot enough for him to get them under it. Oh, I forgot to mention that John had surgery on his left thumb/wrist three weeks ago so he has a cast on that hand!!! He said we needed to call an ambulance because for one thing we were in the sports car and there was no way he could get me into it or out of it and I really HURT by this time. So he called 911 and immediately these two gorgeous firemen came and there I was in my, Thank God, long sweatshirt and nothing else sitting on the handicapped toilet. They did an assessment and said they didn't think the hip was broken but that I needed an ambulance and needed to go to the Emergency room to have it checked out so --- here came the ambulance and they got me onto their gurney and away we went to St. Johns. I'll skip all the gory details but the final diagnosis is that I did fracture my femur but not like you think. It is the greater trochanter which is the knob on the outside of your hip that you can feel. It isn't separated but because it is the place the huge muscle that moves your leg laterally hooks on I have to be really careful and not jerk the chip off. SOOOO I'm on crutches or wheelchair or walker for five more weeks.
I'm so not a good patient - patience is not one of my virtues. And with John one handed and me on crutches you can imagine the fun we're having. I am glad I am crazy because most of the time I can laugh about this whole thing. But I have my moments of hating my crutches and saying some not very nice words.
I've been off work all week and didn't get in to the doctor until Friday so went almost a week with just the ER's diagnosis.
I'm going in to work tomorrow - life will feel more normal then - and hopefully the time will pass quickly. I remember how much I hated the sling when I had rotator cuff surgery and thought it would never be gone but it was so know this will be the same way. I go back on 12/18 and hope they'll say I can put weight on the leg. We are leaving on 12/23 for Las Vegas for a week and then I want to go up to Stacy's for a few days before I go back to school. I'll just have to see what happens on the 18th of December.
I plan to come to the meeting on the 23rd and I told John I had to get on here and let you all know what was going on because you'd kill me if I came into the meeting on crutches and said "Oh, this happened two weeks ago"!!!
I am thinking and praying for all of you and giving huge thanks to our Father that I didn't really fracture a hip. I think the fact that I take so much calcium may have saved me!!!
I know that now the hassle with insurance begins. I have not been contacted by the City's Liability carrier but I've talked to my medical insurance and they've helped me know what to do.
Do any of you have experience in this type thing? Do I need a lawyer?? People keep telling me I do but I'm not sure and don't want to jump the gun unless the City get's ugly. What do you all think.
Hugs and love and sorry this is so "all about me".

Oh my I bet that hurt. I do not think you are a klutz. I fell down some stairs while we were in Germany and yes it does make you feel like a klutz but it doesn't mean you are. I hope everything heals quickly and you get off the crutches before your trip. By the way there would not be a video of a fat woman because there wasn't one there.
Lana...
So sorry for your troubles... will pray a quick healing and not so many hassles with the bills! I can sure relate to the bill things as it seems EVERY time I have anything done I have to fight with the insurance it's just plain maddening!
I also can relate to the klutz thing too as I was out running (on gravel no less) the other day and lost my balance and before I knew what happened my feet went right over my head and I rolled like a ball! And could it have been one of those times I was out there all alone? No! someone was coming down the road and saw the whole affair... I was embarrassed for sure, but like you, ever so glad that I did not break some thing!
Hang in there surely it will be better soon.

Lovely Lana:
I'm so sorry to hear about your accident! I can only imagine the horror you felt when you hurt yourself and were naked to boot! Just remember that those Firemen/EMT guys who helped you have seen and heard everything...so your experience was probably tame in comparison.
I'll keep you in my prayers! Five weeks seems like a lot time, especially this time of year, but will pray it goes quickly and you and your husband make a complete recovery!
Love ya!
