"Give all your worries and cares to God, for He cares about you" (I Peter 5:7, NLT)
We all have times when we feel overwhelmed with life. Maybe you feel as though you are carrying the weight of your whole family on your shoulders. Or, maybe you feel the pressures of financial matters weighing heavily on you. Maybe the burdens at work seem like more than you can bear, or perhaps, you've been caring for a sick loved one.
If any of this sounds familiar, I have good news for you! You don't have to carry that heavy load alone. In fact, your heavenly Father wants to take that burden off your shoulders. He knows you cannot function if you are weighed down with a heavy load of cares and concerns. He wants to lift that weight and cut away the ropes of bondage that would try to hold you back.
The Bible says to cast your cares on the Lord, releasing the weight of them. When we go around carrying burdens, it steals our joy and causes us to feel down and discouraged. It makes it difficult to have the strength to see a way out of our situation. Everyone of us has a choice in how we handle our problems. You may not feel as if you have a choice, and some problems can seem overwhelming. But your outlook and your faith in God can see you through even the worst of times.
I'm not saying that it's easy, but God wants you to cast your cares on Him because He cares for you! In other words, God loves you and He's an expert at dealing with your problems. But, He's not going to take them from you; you have to be the one to release them to Him by faith today.
Why don't you take a few moments to make a list of the things that are weighing you down? Then, say a simple prayer like this: "Father, I've been worrying and fretting, trying to deal with these things on my own. I need Your help, and I'm willing to hand over control of these matters to You. I know You will handle them in the best way possible and that You have my best interests at heart."
When you're finished, tear up that list and be determined not to take those cares back again! His yoke is easy and His burden is light. If He cares for the lilies of the field and the birds of the air, how much more will He care for you?
