Hi Beth,
The first thing you need to do is call your customer service number on the back of your insurance card and ask if YOUR policy has a bariatric exclusion. The exculsions are by policy not by insurance companies. Is the revision you are asking about a repair or revision to another type of WLS?
Whichever good luck and please be proactive and call your insurance company yourself,

Hi Connie ,
I had an LAP/RNY in May of 04 . As far as my ins , I called and they said that any type of baritric surgery was excluded . I am wondering tho what if the pouch needed repair or revised due to the perferred ulcer that I had surgery on as well to repair it , if they would cover repair surgey in the form of a revision.
My Dr stated that in the past when I had a different insuarane , but they would not pay either ..so I may give it another shot.
Have you had a revision ? if so what is it called and what is it that is done , so you know ?
Thanks, Beth

Then it sounds like your policy has a bariatric exclusion. And probably the only way they will cover it is somehow your doctor uses a particular CPT code and only the insurance company knows those magic numbers... if there is one.
No I have not had a revision but work part time for my surgeon in the approval process area. So often people will hear that someone else has the same insurance and they were/were not covered assuming it is the insurance company. When in fact it is an option the Company who purchases the policy to exclude it in order to lessen the cost of the policy. Just wanted to make sure that wasn't your situation.
I sure hope you can get the help you need without it costing you a fortune. So often these surgeries pay for themselves long term cause we are able to get off so much of the costly medicines and are healed of the long term illness' caused by obesity. But one insurance company doesn't want to pay for the surgery just so the next insurance company can benefit from the after effects. Always worried about their bottom line instead of the health of the policy holder. GRRRR
