I haven't been on this site for some time now and just decided to peak in and I saw your post.  I had my RNY in Jan/08 and I lost a lot of my weight fast due to complacations and basically me.  I got obsessed with losing wanted to lose more and more I started at a high weight of 360.  This last year has been difficult I have been in ICU 3x for malnutrition, dehydration, very low protein levels (which my dr. says they only see in starving countries) and due to low protein I get a very serious low heart rate.  I developed an eating disorder such as anorexia where I would restrict foods/fluids and exercise excessively.  I had to go to an eating disorder hospital and continue therapy.  It's hard especially since I have gained 10 lbs trying to build up my system the weight I gained bothers me but I have to keep reminding myself that I'm healthier now and I don't allow myself to weigh every day as I have done which got me on this path.  I struggle every day with getting in the protein that my body needs my levels are still low (14) but I work at it every day.  This is one of the things that can happen that no one warned us about.  I truely believe that more education is needed for people who are thinking about having this surgery there is much I have learned along the way that could have been prevented if I had been told before.  I would still have the surgery over it has it's benifits.  I just want people to be fully aware of everything possible that can and will happen.  This is a life style change and one needs to know what they have to do to live and take care of their on going needs after R NY for the rest of their life.  Find a good eating disorder counselor not just a counselor make sure they have experience with eating disorders or you'll be wasting your time and money.  There are so many people out there who don't understand the true underlining reasons causing an eating disorder.  It's a long journey but if you have gotten through your RNY that too was a journey you can make it through the eating disorder too.  Good Luck and remember an eating disorder is a behavior and it can be changed it just takes time so take one hour at a time.
