Introducing Myself
Hello! My name is Therese and I have been a member here at OH for a couple years but I just got my approval for surgery. Submitted Sept 21 and was approved on Sept 23! I'm so excited! Dr. Roger de la Torre is my surgeon and my pre-op class is scheduled for October 28th. I'm very happy and eager to start this journey!
Anybody have any tips, suggestions, or things to pass on? Like maybe any "things somebody would have told me before my surgery." LOL ;)
Looking forward to getting to know you all,
Therese

Hi and congratulations! There are so many things I wish someone would have told me, but most of them are just funny. Like for example. I wish someone would have told me my boobs were going to go so far down south I could have my nipples pierced right along with my belly button cause they are even now. HAHAH! OR That when you get your first meal at the hospital it comes in a med cup off a bottle of Tylenol. WTH? Seriously though its the GREATEST thing I've done! I can't even imagine how I lived life so long so big. Everyone at Columbia Bariatrics is great. Take some gas x strips for after surgery. The first few weeks are ruff. Not pain wise but mental wise. Just because you have surgery doesn't mean food doesn't look good or smell good. This too will pass and now when I see people eating unhealthy things I think back to how horrible I felt when I ate that stuff. Best of luck to you! You'll do great! Please post any questions or help you need, ok ;) Lou
You are in for a great ride. I'm so glad I did it. The few days I was thinking maybe being fat wasn't so bad but that changed once I got over the nausua. I have absolutely no regrets. It has changed my life.
I have no cravings but some people do and I've never mourned the fact there are some foods I can't eat. I eat very healthy now. Some foods I liked pre surgery and don't like now are eggs, broccoli (hard to digest and just doesn't taste good), green beans (loved them all my life but not any more) and corn. I always preferred corn over potatoes but it doesn't go down well or rather it gets stuck. I became lactose intolerant a few months ago. I don't like ice cream.....so unAmerican....LOL. It tastes good going down but really upsets my pouch. Sugar does not make me dump but I avoid it as well as white flour and white rice.
Good luck!!
