Are there any support groups in Kansas City?
I wonder if you call a hospital in KC if they can direct you to a support group. Columbia is a ways away from KC that's the only place I know. But I'm sure they have to have a support group in KC. Maybe look up a KC wls and call their office. Good luck. Going to a support group had really helped me alot. Its nice to be around people that have had WLS and know what you're going threw and also help people that are thinking about wls. I hope you find one. ;) Lou
I live in Raytown too. My surgery was at St. Luke's with Dr. Price. They have a support group that meets on the second Wednesday of the month at the hospital. It starts at 6 pm so I don't go. I ride the bus to work downtown so I would have to drive to get there on time and I don't want to pay for parking.
Before I had surgery I read about a support group that met in Lee's Summit but I've not seen anything about it since then.

I am having my surgery at Saint Luke's on the Plaza too. Their support groups are really good. They have them at Embassy Suites Hotel on 43rd St. right across from the Hospital. You can go to www.saintlukes.org and register for a class. They say you don't have to register, but at least you can get the dates and sometimes the topics. Best of luck to you!

This is the answer I got today from St. Lukes:
Yes, you may attend our support group since you had your surgery out of the KC metro area. Keep in mind that we may teach differently from what your program taught you. We want our patients to stick with the teaching that they are receiving here. All I ask is that if we talk about something contrary to what you were taught, that you don't mention that you were told something that you could do that we have told patients NOT to do. For instance, if your program taught you that you could drink juice or eat and drink together, we don't want our patients to vary from what we have taught them. We have had a great successful program, mostly due to the education that our patients receive. We just ask that you respect that and we are happy for you to come. The support group meets on the second Wednesday of every month at 6 PM at the Plaza Embassy Suites on 43rd Street. Look forward to meeting you. Adrienne, our nurse is the coordinator and support group leader.
