I had LB surgery in Mexico Sept. 4,  08.  It went very well.  About the time for my fill my husband lost his job of 12 years due to the economy.  Well, I have continued to eat myself to death.    I am looking for a place in Missouri to get my 1st fill.  Some Dr's will not do other patients.  What to expect? What food to have on hand for when I get home? Do I need to prepare myself in any way for the fill?  I need your help and support.  Thanks, Suzie

Hi Suzie have you found a doctor yet? where in Mo. do you live ? i think the wls offices in Columbia. do all sorts of things...as far as what you need when you have the fill , im sorry but i dont really know anything about what you eat except that the main diet is about the same if you want to lose weight. avoid anything that is white....eat meats, green veggies and fresh fruit. and exercise, at least 30 min a day.and drink lots of water.    hope that all helps...i think but not sure that right after you have a fill you are suppose to  eat lite aand soft fo ods...like soups etc...so is this so some of you lap banders out there?  Suzie needs your help ......but wanted to tell you Welcome and hope you come back more to let us know how you are getting along.

Hi Suzie,
I have had my Band for 2 years at the end of this month. The only thing that I need to do before a fill is not eat 3-4 hours before the appointment. Afterwards they ask that we stay on full liquids 24 hours to allow any swelling to go down. Then advance to soft food and see how well that goes. Normally just fine if you aren't too tight. Then advance gently to normal solid protein after that. I am sorry I don't know of any WLS surgeons that take Mexico patents due to the concern of law suits. There used to be Fill Centers USA available throughout the nation but I have no knowledge of where one is located. But you might google it and see if you can find one close enough to where you live.
I wish you lots of luck cause without the proper restriction the Band is not very useful.

Hi Suzie,  I thought about having Lap Band in MX also, but ended up sleeved in Detroit!  (9/15/09).  Google FillCenters USA and I think there is one a couple hours from Kansas City.  Don't know where you live, but Dr. Malley in KC does accept other surgeons' patients...he books up a ways out though, as he only accepts one "outside" patient per day.

Keep your chin up, good luck and God Bless,
Sheilah
