Very Low Ferritin Levels

Hello All,

I have been around just not posting.  Well now I am needing info or advice.  My doctor did bloodwork and it came back. Not good.  My Ferritin Level was 1.  She is referring me to see a Hematologist/Oncologist to see about IV infusions.  Has anyone had these?  How bad and does it help?  Anything else I can do to help?

Thanks,
Kelly

I see you had Dr. H as your surgeon. Have you shared this with them? I have low levels also and they have me on a Rx to see if that would bring it up first, if not then the IV is the next step. I encourage you to contact Dr. H or his wife and share your results. Good Luck!

yes i agree with Barb i would get in touch with Dr. H most deffinately....aslo Traci on here has the same problem at times hopefully she will chime in here on this....good luck and what ever they put you on pills or infusion be sure and take vit c with it , it helps get it to be used by your body ...

Thanks for the info.  Margie is the one who is referring me to see a hematologist or oncologist.  I just want to know more about it.  My ferritin is at 1.

it is a very complicated explination  of what fe rritin is....it is actually a protein that binds itself to iron to keep it from getting depleted. .....if you want a complete detail about it maybe go to google and put in what is ferritin or some words to that effect.....are you extreamly tired ? it can be the cause of really bad  anemia.
what you can do to help is maybe eat lots of iron rich foods. they might help some , like dark green veggies and organ meats are rich in iron.
have you not been on a oral iron pill? your ferritin is almost non existant.  I have never had to have the iron infusions Traci has had several of them ....dont worry until you get to some part that needs to be worried about ok....will be praying for you that you come thru this ok....
