Started my pre-op diet today
Well...I've "officially" started the count down. Started the 2 week liquid diet today....can't believe this day is finally here. It hasn't been too bad..not really that hungry, just low energy and nausea more than anything. I had a HUGE emotional breakdown last night after my "last supper" and while it sucked crying for 3 hours...I think it was helpful to get that out and vent it all on my husband. He was there for me and allowed me to tell all my fears and feelings and I know he is walking the path with me. In fact, he is home today and is doing protein shakes and liquids too! He needs to lose some pounds too so is going to do some shakes and do the Atkins plan at the same time as me. I think that will be helpful to both of us.
Question...I am diabetic and my doctor has me checking my BS 3x daily now that I've started the diet. If it falls under 70, I have a list of juices or skim milk that I am to drink 1/3 cup of to bring the BS back up. SO far, both times today, my sugar has been in the 60s, so I have had to drink some juice. I am not taking my Metformin now that I've started the liquids unless my sugar goes up. Is this common? Did anyone else have to drink the juice to keep it up? Will it level off and get better in the coming days?
Thanks for all your encouragement up to this point!

Cassy yes people have done that and No some havent ...the answer to that can be all over the board ...each person is very very different , please get that thought in your head , you are you and you will do what your body requires you to do. I have heard of people doing both ways....with your blood sugar dropping like that shows that a lot of your diabetis is controlled by your diet and you will probably do really well with getting rid of all signs of diabetis pretty quickly....i have seem some people never have to take another pill or shot again and then others have to hang onto their meds some times as long as 3 months ...
Day three is usually everyone worse day on the liquid diet . so hang on and if you know it is going to be bad you can be prepared. most of the time it is all of the carbs getting out of your system....
take it easy on yourself and pamper yourself in other ways... we are all here for you...take care and hang on for the ride of yourlife and just remember KEEP YOUR EYES ON THE PRIZE.

Its not the easiest thing t do but you can get thru it. The headaches will most likely happen with carb withdrawal. Don't get to worried. Just visualize your liver shrinking. It will help the surgeon and make it easier on you. You can do it with out cheating. I know its hard but its only two weeks. You will lose some weight and don't be surprised if you regain it in the hospital. It won't be permanent and you will lose . Hang in there.
