Daily Bible Reading - Monday August 24th

People often say stupid things to someone who is suffering. Perhaps they do not try to understand the problem. Or perhaps they talk too much. Sometimes it is better just to listen. Often our prayers achieve more than our advice. Sympathy is better than arguments. We should aim for an attitude of quiet friendship with someone who suffers.  Job’s friends did not think that Job was trusting God. But as we read Job’s words they show his confidence in God.  An evil man is afraid to meet God. God will punish that man for his evil deeds.  Job’s friends thought that Job was evil. They warned him not to argue with God. They told him to change his behaviour.  But Job was not evil. Job was a good man. Whatever happened, he wanted to speak with God. Job was not afraid to reason with God. And Job was confident that God would rescue him.  As we are reading about Job, we see that he is a good man but it really seems Job doesn’t think that he is and has doubts about himself.  I think I’d probably be the same way if I were in Job’s shoes, don’t you?  In the end it will be like today’s reading in Proverbs, The horse is prepared for the day of battle, but the victory belongs to the Lord.

Now that gives us all the hope we need because we know who wins!

Daily Devotional

Isaiah 29:5-6, AMP

"…And in an instant, suddenly, you shall be visited and delivered by the Lord of hosts…"

All through the Bible, we have examples of how God suddenly showed Himself strong on behalf of His people. But sometimes when we've struggled in an area for a long time, it's easy to just give up and accept things the way they are. One of the enemy’s favorite lies is to tell you that nothing is ever going to change. He’ll tell you that you’re never going to get well, that your marriage isn’t going to work out, that you’re never going to break that addiction. But I want to tell you today, it doesn’t matter how long you’ve been in those cir****tances, God can change things in an instant! In a split second of time, He can turn it all around. One touch of God’s power can heal your body. One touch of His favor can promote you. One touch of His goodness can solve that problem. Just one touch from Almighty God can instantly change your life.

I encourage you today, keep believing, keep standing, and keep hoping. Don't let the enemy drag your thoughts down because God is working behind the scenes. Your time is coming, and I declare that your breakthrough is going to happen suddenly–in an instant!

A Prayer for Today:

"Father in heaven, I choose to trust that You are working things out for my good. I choose to stand in faith, believing that my season of breakthrough is coming. Give me Your strength and peace as I patiently wait on You. In Jesus' Name. Amen."

I Corinthians 15:57 - But thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.

Good Morning Andy...

I appreciated what you said about Job... but I still don't think I would of had the "whatever" to speak to God like he did!  The part that I loved was when he said: "Though he slay me, yet I will hope in him"  that pretty much sums up Job's character!  I've heard that verse repeated in church many many times but the fresh reading of the verses around it gives me such encouragement... it makes me ashamed when I grumble about the not so pleasant cir****tances in my life when I don't even have fraction of the suffering that Job did.

Parts of the devotional spoke volumes to me in the place I find myself in when it comes to this weight loss journey.... I need to read and re read it.

A piece in the NT this morning re~enforces this thought: "Thanks be to God! He give us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.  Therefore my dear brothers stand firm.  Let nothing move you..."

This certainly applies to more cir****tances than just what was spoken of...

There was other good portions of the scripture today as well....

Have a good blessed day...

Bec
