Daily Bible Reading - Tuesday August 18th
Now move onto the book of Esther. The book of Esther does not mention the name of God. This is strange for a book that is in the Bible. Sometimes God seems to be silent. We might even think that he does not care about us. But the writer of the book of Esther, which is unknown to us, probably wanted his/her readers to realise that God is always in control. Although we cannot see God, he is always doing things in the world. Nobody can stop his plans. That goes true for the devotional too, when we are going through a tough time, we might think God doesn’t care or isn’t around but that’s so far from the truth, God is always there and knows everything we are going through and cares beyond our imagination. He might be allowing us to go through these hard times to shape us up, to teach us what He wants for our lives, to mold our character, whatever it may be God is always and completely in control.
Today’s Reading
Esther 1:1-3:15
1 Corinthians 11:17-34
Psalm 35:17-28
Proverbs 21:19-20
Daily Devotional
Habakkuk 3:17-18
"Though the fig tree does not bud and there are no grapes on the vines, though the olive crop fails and the fields produce no food, though there are no sheep in the pen and no cattle in the stalls, yet I will rejoice in the LORD, I will be joyful in God my Savior"
We all face challenges, difficulties, and times when things don't go our way. God doesn't send these storms, but He will allow us to go through certain things in order to shape our character and prove our faith. Really, it's in our times of difficulty that we grow and develop.
God wants to use the tough times in our lives to do a work in us. He wants to strengthen and develop us. Our attitude in times of adversity is the evidence of our maturity. Are we going to treat people right even when we’re being mistreated? Are we going to stay full of joy even when the bottom falls out? Are we going to be faithful even in the dry seasons of our lives when we don't see anything good happening?
It may take more effort. You may have to work harder to keep a good attitude, but remember, attitude is the key to your promotion. As you keep that positive attitude of faith and expectancy, even in times of adversity, God will deliver you and move you forward into the destiny He has prepared for you!
A Prayer For Today:
"Heavenly Father, I want to grow spiritually and be more like You. I choose to trust You in times of adversity knowing that You are working things out for my good. Renew a right attitude within me by Your Spirit. In Jesus' Name. Amen."
Boy have I always struggled with the Book of Ester and the injustice of it all! ~smile~ But in the end the scripture that says, "all things work together to them that love the Lord" is definitively true in this story!! I just get furious about how those ladies had to go thru a year of tedious preparation for one potentially lousy night with the king! and how if he was not pleased with them they were ported off to the house of concubines!!!! Never to have a possibility of a loving husband, family and children! Egads! Guess you can see I have "stink'n think'n" about this! ~tee hee I wonder what the Lord truly thought about this? I'm thinking in my mind I might have to ask when I see Him! ~ha
All kidding aside.... this is certainly a very interesting story and what the Lord did thru Ester was incredible!
Boy you just can't believe how appropriate the devotion was for me today... I tell you the Lord has a way of setting us straight when we need it!
God wants to use the tough times in our lives to do a work in us. He wants to strengthen and develop us. Our attitude in times of adversity is the evidence of our maturity.

Oh how right you are about how the Word can be sharper than a two edged sword... but oh how wonderful is that the Lord loves us enough not to let us stay in our selves!
A blessed day to all,
Bec
