Any state workers out there like me who are in the process of pre-approval for RNY and are freaking out that MCHCP has decided to change providers? I know in my area that will require me to change to a surgeon that is 3x the distance my current surgeon is.

My hubby works for MoDot and has MCHCP insurance. We haven't heard anything about changing. MCHCP is self insured and the only thing they change is the company that oversees the insurance like Coventry. I think even if if they do change anything it would only be the company that makes sure everything is paid according to the plan. They don't make the decisions on what is covered just have to adhere to the plan. Does that make sense?

Maybe you should look at it from a different point of view---if it's worth having there is NOTHING going to stop you.  Not even distance.  I went to Indiana for my surgery.  I'd do it all over again if I had to.

Mee!  I've got MCHCP too and just found out they are switching a couple weeks ago but my dr will still be in network.  Who are you going to use.

My husband works for the department of Corrections. We have not heard of any changes with our ins. I hope if there are changes it will be for the better.

That's where my husband works too.  If you go to missouri consolidated health care it gives specifics under whats new or 2010.  Basically their dropping coventry and mercy and will only have united health care ppo which it says will cost about the same but haven't posted rates yet.  This plan is a coinsurance plan with deductible or united healthcare providers choice plus which is copay like we have now but will prob be much more expensive.  It says their going to post rates by sept 4th.

oh great..... I can't get on the page it will never work for me. Have you heard what criteria we have to meet to qualify for the surgery with the new coverage?

It doesnt say the criteria yet doesn't have the 2010 handbook up yet.  But when I called mchcp they sd that the bariatric coverage should be the same for criteria wise.  But they didn't have all the specifics there yet so couldn't guarantee it.  It does say on the website that if you pick the ppo plan out of pocket max is $2400 so instead of having to pay the 800 out of pocket it will be more with this plan.  I don't know about the copay plan though.
