Surgery stories
I'm going to assume you're going to the University of Columbia Medical Center. On that assumption when you get there you check in and then you go to pre op. This is where you change into a hospital gown and they will do a pregnancy test. They do this on anyone of child bearing years, unless you've had a hysterectomy. Its a urine test. Then they start an iv. The anesthesia people come in and talk to you, the nurse in your surgery will come in and talk to you. All these people are SUPER nice! They will run over the procedure of putting you to sleep. Your family is in there with you this whole time. Then they give you that medicine that makes you not care and they take you to the surgery room. I don't remember much about going in there only they said take a few deep breaths and next thing I know I'm in my hospital room. Had some nausea, but not really any pain. They will have you on a pain pump that you push a button and it gives you meds when you need it. They will make you get up and walk pretty soon, like 2-4 hours after the surgery. It was a great experience and everyone was so nice all the nurses and staff. They have room service for you family for 5$ and they can order food off a menu and they bring it right to the room for them. I can't say enough good things about how everything went down. Don't get too worked up, its all going to be just fine. ;) Lou
