Hi and congratulations on you upcoming surgery.  I had mine in Columbia also.  About the surgery.  When you get there they will start an iv and give you some meds that will relax you and you won't care if they cut your legs off, its that good.  Everyone was really nice and caring.  After the surgery I had some nausea but very little pain.  Once they got the nausea under control it was smooth sailing.  It felt kinda like I had done alot of sit ups that what I would compare it too.  They had me up and walking a couple of hours after the surgery.  The next day I felt like a new woman.  I took a shower put on my regular clothes some make up and I was feeling pretty great.  I'm not saying that my experience is the norm, but all in all it wasn't bad.  I didn't take any pain meds after the first day, even when I got home.  I did have some gas pains that were off and on.  I like a sharp pain every once in awhile but that went away pretty fast also.  I just kept telling myself this....You are going to have this surgery, its going to go great and you are going to skip out of that hospital, and I pretty much did.  Positive affirmations.  I had my surgery on Wed came home on Friday and went to a football game.  Keep telling yourself you will do great and you will.  Best of luck! Lou ;)

I had a hernia repaired at the same time as my RNY. I took pain meds in the hospital because I was afraid I would hurt. I had a little pain walking but as long as I held my stomach while walking it went away. Take a pillow with you it will help. I didn't need any pain meds at home. It really was not bad at all. I was surprised at how little pain I had. Everyone is different but if you start to hurt take the meds quickly. Its easier to stop it before it gets bad. You will be fine. I got scared just before my surgery , I think its normal to worry.

i know it is a little scary right now with all the unknowns but believe me it will all be worth it in the end.  so you are having surgery on the 18th of Sept...will be your re birthday and you will start feeling all brand new ...i never had much pain after the first day, once they took out the pain pump i never needed anymore pain meds at all. so hopefully you will be the same....between now and surgery date get in lots and lots of protein so your body will be ready and able to heal itself...and if you are able to do so right now start some sort of exercise.   if you have a place to do so , join water aerobics...it is so much easier on the joints. ....keep in touch with us.
