Got a surgery date, starting the liquid diet - ANY TIPS?
Congratulations John!!! I had my surgery on 6/25 and started my liquid diet around 6/15 (I was lucky, only needed 10 days - thank goodness) For me...the first 2 days was hard...but the biggest comfort was SUGAR FREE POPSICLES!!!! Buy a couple boxes...they will be your BEST friend. I could eat those unlimitedly...and DID!
NOW...what I will tell you really hit me...after my surgery, the first week I was home..I had an emotional break down! I recommend preparing for that...you're body is now changed, and you'll never eat like you did again...and for me that was a HUGE smack upside the head for some reason.
I recommend a couple things (these are not in order of importance, they are ALL very important):
1. Make sure you have a supprot group - not just a group to go to, but someone you can talk to as well...someone who knows the procedure..and a group that you can sit down with 1 or more times a month.
2. Make sure your friends & family are TOTALLY supportive. Don't keep temptations around.
3. Get this book: The Emotional First Aid Kit: A Practical Guide to Life After Bariatric Surgery.
4. Follow EVERYTHING your doctor tells you.
5. TAKE YOUR VITAMINS!
You're going to do great...and you're going to love the new you. Just work for it...
Big Hugs & Good Luck!
