Hello everyone.  Just found the Missouri board, lots of great information!

I got my surgery date of 8/24 so I start my 2 week liquid diet Tomorrow, 8/10.  I've heard the usual, first three days are the hardest, jello, broth, etc.

Any tips or advice from all of you pros?

I am really going to be looking to all of you for post surgery tips and diet information.

Hope to hear from some of you soon!

John

welcome to the Mo. Board  you are getting ready to go on a great trip , it isnt all fun and games can be lots of fun for sure and the losing part is lots of fun but you do have to do your part...
Yes the first few days of liquid diet is the worst part for sure. it is when your body is getting rid of all the old toxins and getting the carbs and sugar out of the body....after a few days it will be better. if you have a horrible headache from all of this take some tylenol it will help...
questions ??? surely not??? lol you will have loads of them.  and we will (try ) to help you find the answers....any way welcome and we are glad you found us.   Jan

Welcome, it will be a tough few weeks but just keep thinking of why you are doing this and you will pull right thru this.  I found that I was cranky and slept alot.  I wish I could tell you it will be easy but most of us love to eat so I found it very hard but doable when I kept thinking about the end results.  It was all worth it and wish I had done it sooner.  Congrats and good luck, Raynetta

I found the 2 weeks before harder than anything I went thru after.  Focus on the end result.  It is so worth it.    I truly believe that the 2 weeks before helps you set the right attitude.   You can do it!!!!

Good Luck

Hi John!

CONGRATS!!!!!! You are about to embark on what I considered to be one of the hardest parts of this journey! Once you get passed this-it gets easier....mainly because the tool will be in place to help you. So the next two weeks will be YOU and your will power.

Everyone is different, John-so some breeze through it and say it was easy and some say it was pure hell. No sugar coating-every one has good and bad days-your gonna have both! Get in here and use this board for the good, the bad and the ugly-ok? Thats what we are here for! Your body is going to retaliate-its going to go through withdrawels-from the sugar, the caffeine, all the junk! YOU CAN WIN!!! YOU CAN KICK ITS BUTT AND TAKE NAMES IN THE PROCESS!!!!!

I always tried to remember these things-I dont know if they will help you or not-but, if they do-then its worth sharing them with you:
NOTHING tastes as good as THIN FEELS!!!! The smaller you can get your liver-the easier your surgeons job is-and the better, all around, it is for you-plus-any weight you take off pre-op, is a bonus :)
IF HE LEADS YOU TO IT, HE WILL GET YOU THROUGH IT!!
I personally loved the broth I made myself. I bought the bouillon cubes-chicken, made it up in big batches-and then heated it up in the microwave. I ate sf popsicles like they were going out of style and then the wm brand of crystal light. My one BIG tip to you is that not to stock up on too much-just enough, because alot of us found that our tastes changed when we were post op-and we ended up with alot of stuff we loved preop-on the liquid diet-that we couldnt tolerate post op-k? It can get pricey-so its just something to consider in todays economy.

If you have any ?s, concerns or anything else-plse dont hesitate to pop on in and ask, ok?  Good luck to you, John! I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers! Do you have an angel yet?  Janet

Welcome John!

You are in for an incredible journey.  I can not give u personal advice on liquid diet, as 4 years ago I did not have to be on it for 2 weeks.  Instead I was on like a Weigh****chers diet without sugar for 1 week and then the day before was only liquids.  They have found the liquid diet is the best for 2 weeks.  Pop in here daily  there are a bunch of fine people here.  Good luck and welcome.  God Bless!  Colette

Hi John best of luck with your upcoming surgery.  I'm not going to sugar coat this for you.  It sucks!  This two week liquid diet was invented by the devil.  That being said you can make it threw.  I lived on sugar free Popsicles.  I ate literally a box a day.  Chicken noodle soup strained and drink the broth tastes much better than the plain broth you buy.  I drank tons of water to try to keep my stomach full at all times.  Crystal light is good.  When I was on this my doctor let me have up to 4 protein drinks per day( I drank all four).  The carnation instant breakfast that sugar free is good and you add half a cup of powdered milk to it with your skim milk and some ice in the blender its really good.  Check out Healthyweightsupermarket.com  He's got some great clear protein drinks that are fruit flavored, even protein broth.  slim fast carb control is good also, its at walmart.  I think you can have jello too. ;) Its really hard but its nothing you can't manage.  Best of luck!  Lou ;)
