Does anyone do reversals of MGB in Missouri?
Hello. My cousin had an MGB two years ago. She is too thin.! She is really getting frightened--has unexplained dumping, gerb(??), kidney stones. She would like to get a reversal but her surgeon wants her to see a nutitionist.. Has anyone had these problems with an MGB and does anyone know a surgeon who would see her to do a reversal? She has checked with bariatric surgeons in St. Louis, but they will not touch her.
Im not sure what an MGB really is but wanted to let you know that she isnt alone in this....check with columbia. there are some of the same surgeons there as StLouis but different hospital rules. Maybe the nutitionist would also be a good idea...and she can find ways to add more protein and calories in her diet without it being a large amount of food. Do you think she is anorexic? that is not uncommon for people to do that after having wls....I know of two myself of my close friends. and a couple more that is only on board friends. so if i know 4 then it is pretty common....it can get very dangerous. so maybe the first part is to convince her to see the nutritioist....

Dr. Hargroder was her surgeon. He has initially refused to do the reversal, but she is scheduled to see him this week and we are hopeful he will agree once he sees how thin she is in person. She has severe gerd, dumping syndrome, and has tried high calorie, high protein, going back to stage 1 diet--nothing seems to help and she wants the reversal before her physical condition deteriorates more.
One problem with relaying information to him over the phone, perhaps, is that at 5'2" and 111 she is not officially underweight under the BMI measurements. The reality, in person, is much different. Her general practitioner said he would like to see her put on about 20 lbs! She looks painfully thin, anorexic or ill.
She has tried to join the MGB groups but they seem to only let people join to discuss their triumphs. Makes you wonder how many unhappy MGBers are out there that you can't read about. This is the only site which we've found which doesn't screen out bad reports.
I have assured her after deep digging on the internet, that I have found reports of studies being done on MGB complications, etc. that list reversals/revisions being done. If Dr. Hargroder still refuses to do the reversal I will dig deep and make calls to find out who was willing to do them.
Thank you for responding.

I am not shure of the situation of your cousin. So she may need to see a nutritionist, or she may not depending on what is really causing her symptoms. In Kansas City at Saint Lukes Medical Center, Dr John Price does revisions. All of their surgery is done at their downtown hospital which is a level III trauma center. They have an excellent reputation.
