Well as I have said I am on my First of 2 six month failed weight loss attempts. I am doing ok had a ruff time last night but did not do to horrible. So my question is what are good side dishes, I am trying to get in the habit of how I Will need to eat after surgery. I am eating a lot of chicken and tuna as my meat sources but I am at a complete loss with side dishes. I am a very picky eater and it is not that I have not tried different veggies and tried to eat them long enough to make my self be able to tolerate them at least, it just does not work. I do like peas, corn and green beans. I like salads and do them some as well. I know potates are not real good for you but I do like baked potates. Any kind of help with main dishes, sides or deserts would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for any and all help.

For now if it were me I would add some fruit, try some veggies you have not tried in a while because they may not taste as bad now. I know things I hated as a kid are not bad now. Limit your sugar and stop eating white bread ,potatoes and rice. Switch to wheat bread, sweet potatoes and brown rice. If you drink sodas stop now.  You could drink some protein shakes to find out what you like. After surgery it was easy for me to eat small amounts because I didn't get hungry. I wish you luck on your preop diet.

ok  the peas and green beans are great veggies, no corn it is loaded with wrong carbs that turesn to sugar fast so a no no...as are potatoes.  you can have sweet potatoes baked they are great .... salads are good too ...all of this will be sometime after you have surgery but for right now this is all good .   use the rule of thumb , nothing white.....ok?   deserts there isnt much you cant make with substituing splenda for sugar....you can have sugar free jello with sat ugar free whipped cream on top  or sugar free pudding with sugar free whipped cream ....all sorts of things  ....if there is anything else i can help you with holler also i have a great : recipe of peanut butter protein balls....like a candy almost or are to me anyway...what i would do right now is get rid of the sugar in the house, replace it with Splenda, get rid of any soda, you will have to give that up .... start practicing not drinking while you are eating ..wait at least 30 minutes before you can have anything to drink.....eat tiny bites....take a bite and lay your fork down and chew till what every you are eating is mush ok   if you can get these things perfected you will be gold when you have surgery........

Jan, please give me your recipe for PB Balls.  I've made them twice and didn't like.  The last time they were very dry.

Thanks.

Good advice on getting used to not drinking with your meal and trying out protein drinks.  I always ate a lot of veggies but since WLS, I don't care for any veggies except carrots and salad greens.  Cauliflower is good but not broccoli.  Tastes change after surgery.  I tried corn on the cob twice and it came back up and that was just recently.  Won't be eating that again.  I occasionally eat canned or frozen corn.  I do watch my carbs but I eat only a small serving of corn.  Once in awhile I eat potatoes.

i havent had a potato in almost 4 years lol...i use to love them but jsut got use to not eating them...i do eat sweet potatoes baked. they are good i cook them in the micro wave and peel and put butter on them....

Peanut butter balls.

I add nuts and sometimes rasins or cranraisins or sun flower kernels  what ever i have.

it is one cup uncooked old fashioned oats
one cup splenda
one cup of protien powder  any kind. any flavor really choc is great
and 2 cups of peanut butter...a 16 oz jar is the right size.   some times i use the peanut butter from wal mart that already has choc in it. ....cant think of the name right now. but it  is always at the end of the peanut butt no matter what wal mart i have ever been in. or i guess it would be the first of the row if you started in from the other end lol
i will remember the name after while and tell you it is absolutly fantastic.
if they are too dry add just a drop or two of water to moisten ok wont hurt...

Hello suzy.good luck on your diet,we are praying for you to have this surgery soon.if you want to try protien powder now my husband and i get it at walmart.they have it on the pharmacy area.flavor's are choclate, vanilla, strawberry and cookie's and cream.sometime's we will have one with sugar free drink mix.my husband drink's his with skim milk and i have to have unsweet soy milk.it only has one gram of sugar in it and 5 carb's per 8 ounce serving.i can handle carb's very well.so i look for low carb thing's.also protien bar's are good too.jus****ch which one's you buy.some are high in carb's and sugar's.any more question's jusr ask away.god bless.susan.

just remember that tomorrow is always there. if you mess up today dont give up just mark it down as a mistake and dont say the diet is all over. It isnt. , keep on keeping on. at this time before surgery you have to remember that you dont have any help after surgery you do have a tool to help you out. not that we all dont make mistakes too isntwe do but we are learning that it isnt the end of the world if we do make a mistake...and realize tht we just start over ...and then we realize that we arent really on a diet but a new way of life ....eating to live , not living to eat.......
