Life is short

It seems like death is everywhere. The triple murders up in Cole Camp were my neighbors parents and sister. Then all the celebrities. MJ,Farrah,Ed and Billy Mays today. My next door neighbor passed away this morning. It makes you think how short life is and we should live each day as if it was our last. Its just sad to have so much death around.
Give everyone you love a hug and be grateful for the people in our lives. I am thankful I can hope to be around longer now that I have lost weight but no one is promised tomorrow. I don't mean to be morbid but I am just sad about all the death.

I know what you mean......things have really felt.......dampened this week. It seems like too much. The air time of course is dedicated to Michael Jackson. But I've been mourning Farrah Fawcett and the age she came from all week more or less in private.

Haz, that's really sad about your neighbors, in addition to the celebrity deaths.  I've been watching "Pitchmen" and have come to really enjoy Billy Mays. I've gotten the impression he was actually a good man.  You're so right-- no one is promised tomorrow, and we should definately affirm people while we can.

I work with hospice and have for the past 5 years and there was once a get together at work and our chaplin read a poem/reading about "The Dash in your Life" When things get hard (and believe me they do in my job) I refer to the "Dash".

LIFE BETWEEN THE DASH

LIFE BETWEEN THE “DASH"

I read of a man who stood to speak
at the funeral of a friend.
He referred to the dates on her tombstone
from the beginning...to the end.

He noted that first came her date of birth
and spoke the following date with tears,
but he said what mattered most of all
was the “dash" between those years.   (1934 -1998)

For that dash represents all the time
that she spent alive on earth...
and now only those who loved her
know what that little line is worth.

For it matters not, how much we own;
the cars...the house...the cash,
what matters is how we live and love
and how we spend our “dash".

So think about this long and hard...
are there things you'd like to change?
For you never know how much time is left,
that can still be rearranged.

If we could just slow down enough
to consider what's true and real,
and always try to understand
the way other people feel.

And be less quick to anger,
and show appreciation more
and love the people in our lives
like we've never loved before.

If we treat each other with respect,
and more often wear a smile...
remembering that this special “dash"
might only last a little while.

So, when your eulogy's being read
with your life's actions to rehash...
would you be proud of the things they say
about how you spent your “dash"?
