I went in for my mri last week, for my tailbone...I got a call this morning from the nurse, they found a 8.5 cm "mass" or cyst in my pelvic area.....they don't know what it is, so tommorow i GO FOR A SONOGRAM, i HAVE TO DRINK 32 oz of fluid prior, I don't know if I can hold that much liquid...we'll see. this weekend we are moving to overland park, I now have dr's appt all over kansas!!  I am pretty freaked out about the cyst(?) I had my first in 15 year "womens" exam last month and was actually surprised (pleasantly) that  everything was ok.They wouldn't of even known about the cyst if I wasn't having the mri for my tailbone...which btw...the ortho dr say's I'll need surgery to remove , but I have my follow up  appt. for that tommorow as well ,so i'll know more then. In light of the other problem, I guess the tailbone can wait....if it is a cyst...(praying it is and not something else)  what do they normally do for that? surgery I guess???  the nurse told me with one that size if it were to rupture I could be in trouble, so I'm guessing that leaving it be won't be an option......sorry for the long windedness  I just needed to talk..I am actually pretty scared and don't want to relay that to my family to make them crazy...so i'm putting it on here. if anyone has gone through this i'd sure like to hear your story to know what to expect.  thanks all ,  susan

 I am sure you are worried but they are not always correct when they tell you things like this. One doctor told my husband he might only have six months to live because they saw a mass in his lung. Further tests show it isn't changing and he is ok. I have been mis-diagnosed so many times I will never believe the first diagnosis. A cyst is rarely dangerous and can always be drained. Don't worry until  you have to.  Think positive.

Susie said it right , there are some ortho docs out there that like to use the word surgery....that is the only thing that will fix it , when it may not be anything at all to really worry about and can be fixed with draining. Please see another ortho doc and tell them all of the story and see what they say....
please DO NOT  just go off and have back surgery without checking first...very few back surgerys ever make anyone not hurt....they continue to hurt just in a different way. so be sure and check with another doctor and not someone your doctor is associated with. ...

Hey Susan;

I agree with Jan and the other Susan. It may not be anything.

Great news about moving to Overland Park, you'll be closer to Debbie D, Peggy and I. Let us know when you move so we can get together.

Before I did real estate I was a surgical tech for 17 years.  I've seen alot of these.  Could be an ovarian cyst, in that case they can drain them and remove them with the scope alot of times.  I think there is meds they can give you too.

Susan,

   I know its been a long time since you have heard from me... I just wanted to say that I hope that you will be okay and that I am going to keep you in my prayers.  I had surgery back in 1999 for a cyst, but my whole ovary was covered with them so they took the whole ovary. It wasnt that bad of surgery. It was a real small incision like we had for RNY... Keep us all posted. I hope you are feeling well and dont get too worried or stress about too much.

Lori
