Hello...
Just wanted to stop in and say hi. I am fairly new to OH and very close to surgery. My initial severe nervousness is fading, but I am still anxious about the surgery. Just had the 4 hour class last week and will go for my exercise test tomorrow at UMHC. Will be starting to go to the support group in JC on the 11th. I hope to make some new and lasting friends here (and at support group) that can help me through this awesome lifestyle change. Any tips, suggestions, advice, etc. anyone has will be most appreciated. I love all the inspirational words of wisdom, it helps calm me, lol! Take care everyone!
Jennifer,
Welcome aboard. You are on your way to the "NEW JENNIFER". I just had my revision to gastric bypass on 4-7 with Dr. DeLaTorre. I know you are nervous but it will be ok. Just think by this time next summer you will be sitting on the beach in a bikini soaking up the sun. By winter you will be able to have a nice faux fur coat.
The only thing I can think of right now is to keep a clear head and do not move ahead of the time frame in the way of eating they tell you. Stay on sched.
You will be fine. YOU WILL DO GREAT.
WELCOME ABOARD SISTER

Hello and welcome! Tomorrow is my 7 months anniversary. I had the same Dr. as you also. One suggestion for the hospital would be to get some gas ex strips, you can get them at Walgreen's or walmart and take them with you to the hospital. My mom would slip them to me every couple of hours and they really really help with the gas that you will have post surgery. Everyone at the hospital was great, very friendly and nice. I had the best nurse, my mom stayed the first night in my room to help me out and I'm so thankful she did. My husband the next night. The hospital offers room service for who ever stays with you. They can order off a menu what ever they want for 5$ and they deliver it to your room for them. That first night you're pretty out of it, you will have a catheter but you still have to get up and walk every couple of hours. The first night I was pretty nauseated but they got that under control and then it was smooth sailing after that. The dreaded drain, there is no way around it, it sucks, just annoying, doesn't hurt or anything, just a nuisance. It doesn't hurt when they take it out either. Feels kinda weird. Make sure like they said follow your food guide line don't skip ahead. I lived on diluted apple juice the first week. Half juice half water, it was so good and helped me get all of my fluids in, also sugar free Popsicles. I took a pillow for the ride home but I really wasn't that sore. They will make you eat blue ice chips the morning after your surgery to check for leaks and then you wait for about 20 min once that's deemed OK you get to have some fluids, they bring them to you in the little cup that comes on the top of a medicine bottle. I thought what the heck that's it? The next am before you leave you go to xray for your barium swallow. When that's all good you get to go home. I hope this info helps. When I was new I was full of questions and everyone on here was so helpful, so if you think of any questions please let us know. I've lost 115 lbs in 7 months and this is by far the BEST decision I could have made. Best of luck and remember you can ask anything, anytime ;) Lou
