Is there any other things that I should be takeing that is out of the norm??

Hi Cor...

I don't know whole lot about the fish oil only that it is good for your heart.  We (my program) are not required to take it but can if we wish... I guess what's recommended on the bottle unless your surgeon said different.  Some one else may know more about that?

And on the iron I was told not to take it unless my labs indicated that I needed it and your surgeon told you to start?  Then he would tell you how much and what kind to take... I know there is a specific kind like the calcium.

You could e~mail Margie and ask her these things? I'm sure she would know right away.

It's good to see you post.

Cor I take the fish oil 1000mg twice a day, my PCP put me on it because my cholestoral was kind of high instead of putting me on a perscription pill to see if we could get it lower and it worked.  Also I take he upped my calcium to 3 times aday because i was low on vit D.  As for the b-12 if ya ask Margie im sure they will call you in a new script, also you can take the sublingual b-12 i think like once a week, its over the counter, I seem to get better results out of the shot tho.  As for the iron, Susans surgeon puts them on an iron tablet automaticly, i've started taking one to and dont feel so run down, i dont think my iron was low but we'll see when I have blood work next.

Hope that helps.

Andy

COR!!!!  I knew you missed me.....LOL!  Sure have missed you...

Every surgeon has different opinions on vits and even different opinions on labs.  There is a girl who used to post a lot on the main board but I don't go there much anymore.  She can be a tad rough so people got offended by her.  But she was very knowledgeable on vits.  You might search her and see if she has older posts.  Andrea U was her user name.  But remember, it's all opinion.

Bec and I have the same surgeon and he had me start on iron (as ferrous fumarate) when I got out of surgery...I have a tendancy to be anemic.  There are different kinds of iron and fumarate is better for us as RNY patients.  I also take 1500 mg of calcium w/vit D.  That equals 6 caplets....2 caplets 3 times a day.  That is what my surgeon reccommended.  And they cannot be taken the same time as iron.  I have found that Bcomplex, the iron and B12 sublingual help my energy levels.

Fish oil is personal.  I take it because I know I don't get enough good fat from the food I eat.  I take two a day.  Good for your heart.

Once again, every surgeon and every doc has differing opinions.  You really have to research and see what will work best for you and your labs.  I know Vesta has great labs and doesn't take near the supplements I do.  Mine a pretty good but I find if I slack off, then they go south in an instant.  Jus****ch your body and see what it is telling you.

Best wishes my friend!
