Questions??

Could I get some info on the different surgeries, what they are and how they differ. How to find a doctor in southwest Missouri? I drive truck over the road, is this something I can have done and keep working (after a reasonable recovery time)? I have looked at many of the before & after pictures and I finally believe there is help for me. I have been overweight all my life. I have done nutri system, diet pills, starvation, but I still weigh in at almost 300 lbs. I am ready to take this step. Thank you and God Bless.

there are several surgeries....i would imagine that the majority on here have had the RNY....cant say why for everyone but the reason i had RNY is that it not only gives you restriction by your stomach being made smaller but you have the rerounting of your intestines which if you eat certain things will make you sick ...i needed something that was really strict as i have been a food addict most of my life and have no control over my self....the other biggest part of people on here had the lap band which is only a band place around he top of your stomach, i knew me and that i would be drinking milk shakes and things like that so for me that was out....there is several other ,  DS, VGB and others which i dont know a lot about. 
In S.w. mo. there is my Dr. Hornbostel in Sedalia then Dr. Edwards in Springfield, there is Dr. Hoen in Kansas City and several doctor in Columbia.. 
will you be private pay or will your insurance pay for you? if private pay you may think about going to Mexico where some people that have had to pay for themself have gone and they said they are fantastic there plus they are lots cheaper....also if you have RNY you get to stay in motel on beach to recover.

I just wanted to get in and WELCOME you to the Missouri Board!!!  You can research ALL of the different surgeries, the surgeons and so on, right here on this site-and best of all too-is that the members that belong to our board-are some of the best people you could ever want to know! Most are like family/best friends!

I had the RNY....11/29/06 and have lost 279#. I was obese all my life-and I have JUST begun to live-I would do the surgery again, every year, if I had to- I feel that good about life now! Anyway-my surgeon was Dr. Nicole Fearing with MO Bariatrics in Columbia, MO and she is AWESOME!!!  Good luck hon.  Janet
