I have not posted for a while but have been following along reading. My day is finally here!!! i go in the 23rd of march and will have DR De La Torre. I go in for the all day session tomorrow.

This liquid thing is hard but i will make it thru. How long after surgery is the average time before you get on some kind of solid food again?
thanks in advance for support i have already received and know will come in the future. this is a great place for info and support!!!!!

Hi Tom...

Congrats!  How Exciting you have a date and so soon!

I don't know what your doc will tell you... but I had a friend that introduced me Isopure and I drank that the first full week after surgery and I think it really helped me stay strong and heal faster and I got all my protein in right away from day 2 on beings it was considered clear liquids... grant it, it is expensive but I thought it was well worth the added expense....for a week anyway... then I could go back to my powered proteins... there is a powered protein called Nectar that comes in different flavors that you might like as well it is considered clear liquids too.  I got a shot glass and a timer and drank about 2 to 4 oz every 20 minutes and by the end of the day I had gotten it all in.... might be something for you to think about as well.

I have a different surgeon but we could start having certain solid foods on day 8.  I don't know what your surgeon will have you do but it won't be long and you will be back to real food.

I wish you the very best success!  And you are right!  I have gotten the VERY BEST support here on this site made many many wonderful friends!

Hey Tom,

My wife is having her surgery on March 17 with Dr. Ferring out of the same office in Missouri Bariatrics.  As for the liquid diet, you will  be clear liquids the first week out until your one week pre-op appt. then the second week you will be on the liquid diet like you are on now doing protien shakes, then the third you will be able to start on soft foods such as yogurt, cottage cheese, creamed soups, stuff like that, then it progresses from there,  in the class you will be going to they will go over all that with you and hand you a notebook with everything you'll need to know in it.  The 2 week liquid diet will go fast for ya, you'll be busy getting ready for surgery.  Hope that helps ya.  Good luck with everything, chances are we'll see ya at one of the appointments sometime soon.

HI, congrads on your date.  I had the same dr. for my surgery 5 months ago.  You will be on the liquids for 2 weeks after surgery too.  He is VERY strict with the food portion of the program, like I know people that were eating refried beans in a week and we dont' get those for like 8 weeks, just make sure you stick to it.  After surgery the liquid isn't bad because you don't really feel like eating that much anyway while your pouch heals. I lived on diluted ( half water half juice) apple juice so much so I can't even look at apple juice now.  If you have any questions just let us know.  The liquid diet before surgery is the worst of it.  Best of luck! Seeya on the loosers bench! ;) Lou
