What group should I go to?

I am having the Toga procedure. It is a research study. You can search it for more information. But I can tell you a little here. They are going into my stomach to staple it, but they are going in through my mouth, so there will be no incisions anywhere. They are also going to make my esophagus opening smaller. Which group here do you think will be the best for me? Since it is new and still being studied, I cannot find a group for my find of surgery. What would you say is the closest to what I am getting? I am getting it on Wednesday.

Thanks

Just go to the docs support groups, I'm sure he doesn't do a support group for all he does. If he does just find a support group that is there for you not what you got or don't got as it goes.  Just meet great people an enjoy. Marylin

no matter which surgery we get we all have the same food issues so find one close and give it a try. If it is not a good fit try another one. As long as you stay connected. You are always welcome here.

we hope you will fill comfortable with us right here. have never heard of the procedure you are having but will research it....sounds interesting...so is it just a restrictive procedure? ..will you have restrictions only on the amount of food you can eat and not what you can eat? by that i mean like the RNY we have restriction on the amount but because of the rerouting we cant have a lot of the things that make will make us sick like sugar, fats, high carbs....etc etc.

anyuway welcome to the Mo. board and hope you will keep coming around....Jan

Hi Heather...

I have heard of the procedure you are going to have (I think)... when I first heard about it they were not doing it in the United States yet but in France I believe... Dr. DeLaTorre told me about it.... I think a company or institute he might have been involved with was instrumental in this... I may be wrong but if my memory serves me right...seemed like his thoughts on it at the time were that it might not be as quick a weight loss and maybe not as effective for the extremely obese but it sure was getting some good reviews in the other countries they were doing it in... no incisions, no recovery time... people were getting it done and going back to work... if this is the same procedure?

I wish you the very very best!

I don't know what the best support group for you would be but I know I have gotten such wonderful support and love from this precious group of people!  Hope you find just what you are looking for and are successful in your endeavors!

Hi I am in the TOGA trial as well.  I also would love to have a place to talk to others who are in the study. I am seriously thinking about starting a yahoo group for this purpose!!

I had the Toga on 2/2/09.  We need to check the investigational consent and make sure that we are allowed to talk to each other and that it doesn't violate the rules.  It would be bad if that knocked someone out that had the sham procedure.  I have been looking at the VSG message board.  Their stomach is the size of a banana and ours a hot dog................it seemed they had a lot of the same issues.  Also the boards for the month you have surgery.............those will be giving you empathy while you drink your broth!  I assume your surgery will be at Wash U.

Hi. If we are allowed to talk to each other, that would be great. If anyone starts a group for it, let me know.

I did have my procedure at Washington University at Barnes Jewish Hospital. On Wednesday March 11th, 2009.
