Hello!

My name is Cheri.  I had surgery on 2/9/2009 at UMMC.  I started my journey for WLS back in 10/06.  A lot of people that I worked with were having the surgery done and I went through the process- unfortunately my insurance company started doing a cost benefit analysis and since I had no comorbidities and wasn't on any medication- I was denied.  I just finished paying off all the bills I had accrued trying to find a co-morbidity!  I found a clinical trial and was thrilled to see it was being done in an office in Columbia.  I was accepted and am thrilled.  I go this week for my 4 week check up.  I decided not to buy a scale as I have read people getting upset with their weights on a daily basis.  At my two week check up I had lost 15 lbs!  I will have a 3-6-9-12 month check up and will see what my weight is doing.  This way I can focus on what my clothes are doing.  At the 12 month checkup they will tell me if I had the actual procedure or was in the control group.  I am working on eating over a 60m time frame.  This week I finally got to add seafood to what I am eating.  I made my husband take me to Red Lobster- the waiter was very confused when I told him nothing to drink and I just wanted the add on crab legs to my husbands order.  Sure makes a difference in the bill.  In the next few weeks I will have to work on menu plans.  The trial says to eat 75% of calories from protein- so for a 1000 cal diet that is 188gms, but the carb has to be under 40gm.  I will have to work with the dietician on that one- that will be hard.  I live in Jefferson City and work at Lake Regional in Osage Beach.  My husband and I have been together for 21 years and have four children ages 10-12-15-16.
I look forward to getting to know you.

Hi Cheri and welcome to the board  Sounds like you are planning well for your weight loss journey  My husband is in need of WLS and I would be interested in knowing where to call to find out more information on the trial study.

I had RNY in St. Louis in June 08 and have lost about 85 pounds with more to go.  I seem to be stalled this month, which is so flustrating  I also try to stay off the scales, but do weigh every couple of weeks or so.

Best of luck in your weight loss.

If you go to clinicaltrials.gov and put in Missouri it will show what is out there.

Yes they take you to surgery  and you don't know if you had the procedure or where the control group.  At the end of 12 months if you were in the control group and still meet criteria they do the surgery for free.  So either way you come out ahead.

Love hearing from you and wish you all the best.  Don't forget there is a support group in Jefferson City and one in Osage Beach if you are interested.  I find my support group to be a big help and a lot of fun.

You're right about eating out. My DH says lately I'm a cheap date!  Good luck.  We love to hear evryne's progress, so keep us posted.
