Can we take diurectics? (Water pills)

Good Morning, MO Peeps:

My fingers have been swollen for about a week now.  It's to the point I can't get my wedding ring on and off.  They were hurting so bad yesterday that I felt they were going to split open.  It's especially bad around the knuckles.  I'm about 2 weeks late on my period.  Anyways, my question is can we take an over the counter diuretc (water pill).  Seems like I read somewhere that we weren't suppose to take them.  Is that true?  If so, why?  Can it dehydrate us?  I just feel so uncomfortable I think one water pill might help.  However, don't want to do anything that might harm me.

As always, thank you for your words of advice.  I really appreciate all of you.  Yes, I will make an apt with my PCP next week to see what's going on.  I should have went yesterday but didn't.  Will have to wait until sometime next week.

Debbie try as best you can to drink a lot more water,,,,i know it sounds stupid but it will help get rid of swelling some times....if i drink only 64 oz i start to swell but if i just increase it to 72 ozs it gets rid of the swelling...Jan C.

Thanks for the response.  I will definitely drink more water.  I will tell you that I know, for the most part, I drink more than 64 oz of water a day.  My urine is very very light colored.  I will be drinking, drinking, drinking (water of course) today!

I take water pills.  So does Karen and a couple others also.  Just make sure you talk to your Dr about it before you do.

Thanks, I used to take Water Pills once in awhile before I had rny.  However, haven't taken them since.  I think I'm going to try what Mama Jan suggested and "drown" myself!  lol!  If that doesn't work by in the morning, I will try a water pill.
