Any Dr Hoehn lapband patients?
Hey everyone, I was wondering if anybody here has had Dr Hoehn preform the lapband surgery on them. I have seen many RNY patients but have yet to find anyone who has had the lb.
I have been to his seminar, I have been to Dr. Sabapathy's office twice and have spoken with the nutritionist and have an appointment with Dr. Sabapathy's office next week.
I am currious how this process works. I have not actually met with Dr. Hoehn, I'm not sure why or when that will happen.
I was wondering if he schedules certain surgeries on certain days. For example RYN's on Mondays, sleeves on Tuesdays ect or does he just fit you in where ever he can. Or does he only do surgeries (any kind) on certain days.
The reason I'm curious is because I am a hair stylist and my schedule is never the same and I have to ask off in advance. I was also wondering how long I should expect to be off since I stand on my feet alot.
Thank you in advace for any help you may provide.

Hey Neighbor!
Hi I am Connie and I live in Platte City and I am very proud to claim Dr. Hoehn.
Seriously he and his staff are excellent and I would be happy to answer any questions you have. I am 16 mos. post-op and lovin the changes in my life.
To answer some of your questions...
It looks like you are very close to having an appointment with Dr. Hoehn. Usually they call and make the appointment after you have been released from Sabapathy and met with the NUT.
Dr. Hoehn does surgeries four days a week normally. Depending on which facility you are going to have your surgery at. He does SMMC Mondays and Wed. and Tuesdays at Heartland Spine and Specialty Hospital in Overland Park and then does general surgery at St Lukes Thursday I think. You will have probably 2-3 weeks from your appointment til surgery unless he has a cancellation or is really backed up still from the holidays. But he tries to work around your schedule as much as he can.
He has an excellent PA whose name is Tim and he has been my saving grace as far as teaching me patience and has the most gentle hands and demeanor. You will see him mostly after surgery he does most of the fill work and I would rather have him take care of me than the doctor honestly.
If there are other questions please feel free to ask me I would be glad to answer what I can.
Welcome and good luck,
Connie B.

Hi Connie! Thanks for the great info! I'm glad to know there is someone close by I can talk to.
I do have a couple more questions if you don't mind.
How many times did you have to see Dr. Sabapathy. I have seen him once and took a physc exam yesterday. I go to see him again Monday the 2nd. I know everone is different but I'd rather prepare for worse case. I kind of want to mentally prepare for the journey.
I would love to hear about your journey if you don't mind sharing.

I saw Sabapathy once and he sent an email on to Hoehn's clearing me while I was there. I am 56 years old and I was having really serious health problems and deteriorating quickly so I think that was one reason why he expedited it as much as possible. Also I had been over 2 years trying to get the surgery so I was very clear with my decision and had all the 'right' answers.
The reason it took so long for me to finally get the WLS is I had heart problems and before I could get Dr Hoehn to do surgery I had to have a release from my Cardiologists. Well, they had always treated me like I was just too lazy to lose weight unitl they had to sign paperwork releasing me for surgery that they were not in favor of. I happen to get lucky and get the new doc that had a family member that had RNY surgery and he decided to run extra tests to make sure I was good to go. Well sure enough I ended up having to have Open Heart surgery. Then had to wait to heal and get some strength back..blah blah blah.
Anyway I finally was able to have LapBand surgery 2years later. And my darn heart acted up during the surgery and I ended up having to stay 3 days and they had to stop my heart and restart it. Luckily PA Tim had reviewed my medical history and had requested I establish myself with a Cardiology team that worked at SMMC beforehand. And I was very thankful he did. And he spent all the time needed with me in the hospital to reassure me to have that procedure done and answer all my questions. So you can see why I speak so highly of him.
Then it took me a year and a week to finally get to sustainable restriction. I have a very thin wall stomach. (Only thin thing about me I guess!) There is no way of knowing that till they start filling the band. But Dr Hoehn nor Tim never once treated me like it was something I was doing wrong or anything that I could have done differently. I was still losing but very slowly. But each visit to the doctor's office was as positive as could be and never treated or spoken to disrespectfully. So never fear going to Dr. Hoehn cause he and his staff just simple do not treat you in a disrespectful way.
Now that I have good restriction my diabetes has nearly disappeared and the weight is dropping like I had dreamed it would. Oh and by the way my usual Cardiologist is now spending more time askin me questions about LapBand surgery (he battles his weight too) than telling me about how bad my heart is.. cause it has improved so much he can't believe it. tee hee
It is alot of work on our parts but it is also simply incredible the difference it makes emotionally, mentally and physically.
Sorry this turned into a book. I promise to not get so carried away next time.
