St. John's Hospital New Beginning's Support Group Meeting Reminder.

Hi Everyone!

It's time again for our next meeting of the St. John's Bariatric Surgery Program's “New Beginnings Support Group". The meeting will be held at the St. John’s Surgery Center, Classroom 4B,  1229 E. Seminole. Springfield Mo. We will be meeting on Monday, January 12th, 2009; we meet from 5:30 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. Our regular meetings are the second Monday of every month. We have members with all types of bariatric procedures to provide personal experience and support to others with the same procedures. We have two open sharing groups for RNYs and Lap Band pre and post-ops, and their support members - something for everyone! You may be a part of our group regardless of where you have had your surgery, and you don’t have to be a St. John’s patient to attend. Everyone is invited!

This month we hope everyone will attend because we will be discussing possible topics for the upcoming year. This is your chance to voice your opinion on what you would like learn about and discuss.

 

Please note in case of inclement weather, if Springfield schools are closed or dismiss early our meeting will be canceled.

We look forward to seeing everyone on Monday.

Can you tell us more about your group?

How many on average attend?  Who is the leader?

I am looking for a group for a very seasoned, been through the mill, post op RNY patient, but I'd like to have a little more info.

I don't care for the completely "0pen" format or one  that is overly religious.  I feel that there's a time and place for that and a WLS support group isn't it.

 I've been to several meetings though I had to miss this one.  It's a semi-structured group.  The leader is Katie, an LCSW if I recall correctly.  Several seasoned veterans attend as well as a fair amount of new people.  There have been more lap-band patients than RNY at the meetings I've been to but it's a mixed group.  Katie often has a guest speaker come in such as a nutritionist or an exercise physiologist then there's questions and answers and real-life situation discussion.  I think it's helpful.
