Daily Bible Reading – Friday

Im so glad so many have the desire to read the bible through in the year with us, it just blesses my heart to no end.  I know together we will ALL get such a blessing out doing this together.  Reading Gods word is His way of speaking to us and I really feel He has alot to say to us this year.  Let this be a year of fresh and new beginnings, not only with our weight loss but with renewing our faith in God as well.  Thank you all so much for participating.  Please feel fee to have any input and discussion with what we read each day.  If any of you at all have any questions please feel free to ask, there will be someone that can answer it, if there isn’t I’ll make sure we find an answer in Gods word.

***Susie*** I really pray and believe you will be blessed by reading Gods word with us this year,  its such a blessing to me to have you reading with us.

***Bec***  You are such a tremendous blessing,  thank you so much.  I know we will all be blessed this year by reading Gods word together.  Jan came up with the idea and it really popped out at me that I really needed to do it this year.  I’ve read many parts of the Bible but never have read it from cover to cover,  I just can’t wait to see what God has to say to us.   I really feel that as we dig deeper into Gods word our weight loss goals will be right there also.

I remember how hard it was to do the liquid diet by yourself, when I had the surgery I didn’t have to do that but did because I had to lose so much weight in order for them to do the surgery and I just figure if I do that with Susan I’ll be just as blessed with losing some more weight.  This is a year of blessings for us all.

I am going to do the reading where you read a little in the old, a little in the new unless everyone would rather just read straight through from start to finish I will change quick before we get to far.

Thank you Bec for being such a blessing.

***Vesta*** I really hope you get a blessing out of reading with us,  I know Gods word will have a lot to say to us all.  Thank you so much.

***Jan*** Thank you for coming up with this idea,  I really do think it will not only draw us closer to God but closer to each other.  I see so many blessings around us all, this will just help to bring them all together.   I think a discussion added to this post would be great, like I said if any of us have any questions someone out there will have an answer, I just love that.  God always speaks to us in different ways with different ideas and putting them all together will be really interesting.   Again thank you for coming up with this idea of reading our bibles.

***Deb*** I think we all will get such a blessing out of sharing with one another.  Like you I’ve started to read the bible through and for one reason or another I was distracted and never finished.  Together we can do this and find what God has to say to us all.  I’ve read “The Purpose Driven Life" it’s a great book, we did that book for a Sunday School class one year, what a blessing that was.   2009 is going to be a year of change and a year of growth I feel,  it just blesses my heart we can all grow together in Gods word.

***Karen*** Thank you for doing this with us,  I try also to read the bible when I first get up when its quiet around the house, it just seems that’s when I can hear God the best.  If I wait later on in the day I seem to get distracted but I know with Gods help we can all do this and be so blessed through out the year.

***Cassie*** Feel free to post any kind of discussion on what you read,  I think that will help us all in understanding His word.  I know it will help me tremendously.  Thank you for doing this with us,  I know you’ll be richly blessed for any input you have and so will we.   It truly IS amazing how the earth was created isn’t it? Just think if he did that in just 7 days what we can accomplish is 365 days, wow!!

***Beverly*** That’s truly my goal this year is to read the bible through.  I’m sure we will all get distracted at some point or another but I am praying as we do this together will all make it to the end.

If any of you at all have any input or read something you want to discuss please feel free to post it, I know it will help me in understanding what I’ve read for the day and hopefully it will everyone too.   Also before we get to far into the Bible if everyone would rather read from beginning to end instead of a little from each testament just holler, we can do it either way.  Thanks again for all of your input and participation, this is going to be so great to do this together.

Daily Devotional for Dieters

1 Peter 1:16
...it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy.

Too often we think that holiness is merely a matter of the spirit. We feel that if we read our Bible, pray regularly, and attend wor-ship, we are being holy. But holiness requires that we tend to our physical health as well as our spiritual health. Early Christians realized that they were more alert and better able to concentrate on God when they felt good. Tending to the body made them better at their spiritual pursuits. Dieting may make us look better, but it will also make us feel better, and it will enable us to pursue God in deeper and more meaningful ways.

Today's thought: We please God when we try to be the best we can be!

Have a Blessed Day Everyone!!

Oh Boy Good Word This Morning!

I think it interesting that the first of the Proverbs starts out with thoughts on discipline when in fact that is just what we will need to see this goal of reading the bible thru in a year.... it is so easy to let "things" get in the way of reaching a goal especially since the ole devil will not like this plan!

A bit of thoughts on discipline... in the very fist part of proverbs it is said the book is "for acquiring a disciplined and prudent life, doing what is right and just and fair..." and all manner of things like! it continues to say, "let the wise listen and add to their learning's"...

Today's portion says "fools despise wisdom and discipline"... Boy I don't want to be that fool!

Discipline is such a huge part of the successful believers life... no it's not easy but it is essential.  I know when I have been disciplined in my life I am much much happier!  It's when I procrastinate or just do not do what I know to do is right that I feel it so keenly... it seems that what I do or don't do does not just effect my life but those around me... we need/have to be accountable not just to ourselves but to others as well since our lives are so intertwined.  Boy have I been frustrated for years and years with re~occurring undisciplined lifestyle!  It seems real tough for the person that is disciplined to have to live with the continued up he-val of ones that are not... that is where we can get a real lesson in grace! ~ha

Anyway I would like to encourage you to take a look at your life... where do you need to see more of wisdom and discipline... you know we are not going to be perfect but I know the
Lord will honor those that strive for a better disciplined life and as we keep on with this... wisdom will be added!

This will give me lots to think about as I walk this morning... what is my part in this Word the Lord has placed before me today?

Bec

Andy I love those devotionals you are putting at the end of your posts...  good stuff!

Again thanks Andy I can barely wait to read each day ....reading like this together is such a joy....Discipline has always been one of the hardest things for a Christian  to learn i do believe....it took me so many years to even know that that was what was needed in my life. then to acquire it is relenting and letting God control ...not me.

keep reading good and faithful servants as you will gain discipline and wisdom...

Andy....thanks for being obedient and taking on this challenge to lead.  I have tried to commit to being faithful and disciplined (in everything!) and have never been able to follow thru.  2007 & 2008 were rough (death & illness) and I know that 2009 will be better.  Yes, it may be full of death & illness too, but if I am faithful and disciplined I can make it...one step at a time with the understanding that God is in control.

Dear Andy,
Thank you for doing this. Its nice to feel like we have a place to go where we can ask questions and put our two cents in and not be ridiculed because of it.

I have to be honest here and say that with this surgery has come the biggest change in my spirit and who I am on the inside and I never ever thought it would have that much impact on me, from the emotional/spiritual side of me, that it has. I was a very depressed/negative person before the surgery and I went through some really trying times. I used to ask God to please take me in my sleep...as I did not want to wake up and live like I was. When I would wake up-I hated myself for asking for him to take me, when I had so much to live for.......

I know-is there a moral to this story? I believe that what God performed in MY life is a miracle and I am constantly TRYING to make HIM proud of me. I am always trying to be the person HE wants ME to be.....I feel that when I am quiet and I listen to HIM....I am at my best.  Discipline is very hard for most of us... as I know it is for me-I am just thankful we have a forgiving God and one that will not give up on me, as long as I am doing my best and seeking his guidance.

I think that we can all ban together and do this, this year and it will be wonderful-so I thank you!  I wish we all lived closer so we could meet and do a Bible Study-but this is just as gratifying to me-and I love you all! Janet
