Depaul Weight Loss Institute

Hey!  I was wondering if anyone had any experience with SSM Depaul in St. Louis.  I am currently looking into this place, but wanted to hear from some people who have been there before.  So has anyone gone to Dr. de la Torre or Dr. Scott and if so how was your experience?  Also, my insurance has an exclusion for weight loss assistance, so I will be paying out of pocket- does anyone have any experience with this?  Also, for anyone that has used SSM Depaul how long did the process take from beginning to end?  I  I have been looking into having the surgery for a few years now and have been lurking on this board for a while, but I decided to sign up and ask some questions finally :)   Thanks so much!

Welcome to OH!  Dr. De La Torre did my surgery in October and I couldn't be happier, I've heard Dr. Scott is one of the best also.  Dr. De La Torre has a great surgery record with very few complications and he's done over 5000 RNY's and him and Dr. Scott are pioneers in the RNY procedure. Here is the thing you don't really see much of Dr. De La Torre, I've seen more of the fellow, but Dr. De La Torre did the surgery with the fellow assisting.  My surgery took approx 1 hour.  Thier office is great and its a very structured program.  They are very strict with the post op food.  I was refered to him by a surgeon friend in my town that I used to help do RNY's.  I had my surgery at the University of Columbia so I don't really know anything about that hospitol in SLT but I have to believe that these two guys wouldn't do surgery anywhere questionable.  Maybe someone else on here has been there. Congradulations on making the best decision for you and your health.  I think everyone here will agree its an amazing life changing expierence.  I hope this has helped a little.  Have a great night! If your going to be self-pay you might want to look into DrJoya in Mexico.  I know a couple people that have gone down there and got the RNY done, its much cheaper and they have had great success plus you get to recover for 3 or 4 days after surgery in a hotel right on the beach lol.  Here's the website if you want to check it out.

Dr.Scott was my doctor for my WLS....I had my WLS in Columbia but a year later had double hernia repair and Dr.Scott did that as well and it was done at Depaul....

I love Dr.Scott to death and he is a real sweetheart....I have no complaints about Depaul either.....

I wish you all the best....WLS is da BOMB...It will change you life in sooooo many ways.....
